As far as FMVSS 201(cockpit module safety regulation) is concerned, the car manufacturer is required to satisfy head impact test on various impact points on the Instrument Panel(IP). The number of impact points may vary from 15 to 20 points or even more, and performing Finite Element(FE) analysis is a cumbersome process when it becomes necessary to simulate multiple impacts. The head impact simulation is a recursive process yet it is manually done by human for each impact, costing time and labor. Works described in this paper show how an automated process can replace manual process, yet can produce reliable and consistent outcomes efficiently.
감각추구성향, 자기효능감과 소구 유형이 메시지 태도와 행동 의도에 미치는 영향

The issue of binge drinking and alcohol abuse is a serious problem, which damages individuals and the society together with huge physical and mental prices. To increase the effects of public health campaigns, audience segmentation is required and sensation seeking with self-efficacy works as a key criteria for attitudes toward messages and behavioral intention in the context of risky behaviors such binge drinking. Besides personal characteristics, using appropriate appeals such as fear and humor also influences the audience`s decision-making process. This study suggested three variables, sensation seeking, self-efficacy and appeal types, intermingle together to influence attitudes toward campaign messages and behavioral intention. An experiment with 340 participants was conducted to answer the research questions and hypotheses. Sensation seeking and self-efficacy interacted only with the humor appeal against the message attitude. The message attitude was highly positive in the low sensation seeking and high self-efficacy group in both appeals. No interaction effects were detected between sensation seeking and self-efficacy against behavioral intention. Only main effects of sensation seeking and self-efficacy were found. Theoretical ramifications based on the results were discussed further.

Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis caused by autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is characterized by fever, cytopenia, coagulopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, elevated liver enzyme, and high ferritin, typically combined with hemophagocytic histiocyte proliferation in the bone marrow. Here, we report a case of MAS in a patient with SLE treated successfully by tocilizumab. She was transferred to our hospital due to persistent fever of unknown origin. Initial blood tests revealed cytopenia, elevated liver enzyme, and high ferritin. Bone marrow histology revealed the presence of hemophagocytic histiocytes. The patient was initially treated with high dose corticosteroids; however, fever and cytopenia were not controlled. Additional treatments with cyclosporine, intravenous immunoglobulin, and rituximab were applied consecutively, but the fever and cytopenia persisted. Symptom resolution was finally achieved following treatment with tocilizumab, resulting in rapid improved of fever, and resolution of pancytopenia within 2 months. (Korean J Med 2015;89:372-376)

Two conceptional cathode flow field designs are proposed for preventing serious electrolyte dehydration and overcoming unstable performance issues in PEFC that are air-cooled passive type. In one design, porous metal foam is selectively inserted into the parallel channels in contact with the cathode gas diffusion layer to suppress water transport from the cell, and the other one has a smaller cathode inlet area to reduce the amount of reactant air entering the MEA. Compared with a conventional parallel flow-field configuration, the metal foam based design results in better water retention in the MEA when excess dry air is supplied. Furthermore, it shows more uniform distributions of species, temperature, current density, and higher cell performance. The modification of the cathode inlet area has a relatively small influence on performance of the fuel cell. This study presents a new strategy for designing the cathode flow field for the optimal operation of passive air cooled fuel cells.

본 연구에서는 가막살나무(Viburnum dilatatum Thunb.)의 잎과 세지로부터 유래되는 천연화학성분들을 얻고, 이들의 자극완화용 화장품 소재로써의 가능성을 확인하기 위하여 항산화 효능 및 항염증 효능을 조사하였다. DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl)를 이용한 전자공여능 측정방법에 의한 항산화 효능 조사 결과, 가막살나무의 에탄올 (Ethanol) 추출물(SC<sub>50</sub> = 17.03 μg/mL), 에틸아세테이트(ethyl acetate) 분획물(SC<sub>50</sub> = 13.97 μg/mL), 부탄올(butanol) 분획물(SC<sub>50</sub> = 10.30 μg/mL) 순으로 항산화능력이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 lipopolysaccharide (LPS)에 의해 활성화된 마우스 대식세포(RAW264.7 cells)에서 생성되는 산화질소(nitric oxide : NO) 생성의 억제능을 조사한 결과에서는 항산화 활성이 저조했던 헥산(hexane) 및 메틸렌클로라이드(methylene chloride) 분획물에서 10 μg/mL 시료농도를 기준으로 할 때, 50 % 이상의 NO 생성 억제율로 우수한 항염증 효능을 나타내었다. 특히, 위와 동일 실험 조건에서 헥산 분획물의 경우, 염증 반응 인자인 TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 등의 cytokine과 iNOS, COX-2 효소의 발현이 농도 의존적으로 억제됨을 RT-PCR 방법으로 확인할 수 있었다. 이번 연구 결과들로부터 가막살나무 유래 천연화학성분들은 자극완화용 화장품 소재 개발에 매우 유리하게 응용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. The crude ethanol extracts and their solvent-partitioned fractions derived from the leaf and twig of Viburnum dilatatum Thunb. were investigated for their 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging efficacy. The results showed that the butanol-soluble fraction (SC<sub>50</sub> = 10.30 μg/mL) exhibited higher anti-oxidant activity than the crude ethanol extract (SC<sub>50</sub> = 17.03 μg/mL) in the DPPH assay model. Then, the effects of the same extract samples on the production of nitric oxide were examined in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Although the hexane and methylene chloride-soluble fraction showed a weak anti-oxidant activity, they exhibited potent inhibitory activity of NO production above 50 % at a concentration of 10 μg/mL. The hexane-soluble fraction also showed the inhibitory effect on mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such an TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, iNOS and COX-2 in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7. These results suggest that the solvent extracts of Viburnum dilatatum Thunb. could be used as an anti-irritation ingredient.

Objectives: Obesity is one of the most significant issues in global health due to its impact on health, socioeconomic burden. To better understand its etiology, this study investigated cross-sectional association between obesity and general characteristics (age, sex, income, education). Also, this study mainly focused on health related quality of life (HRQoL) and presence of depression as factors contributing to obesity. Methods: This survey investigated Korean population (n=5,808) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016). Chi-squared test, t-test, logistic regression analysis were used to explore the relationship between each characteristic and obesity. Multiple regression analysis was further undertaken to assess the relationship between depression and obesity. Results: Age, sex, education, smoking, stress perception, depression and EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D) were found to be associated with prevalence of obesity. The odd’s ratio (OR) of higher EQ-5D score group to obesity was 0.24 (95% confidence interval, 95% CI=0.13-0.44), and through multiple regression analysis, the adjusted OR of depression to obesity was 2.37. Additionally, there was a higher probability that obese individuals would perceive themselves as obese than non-obese individuals. And obese individuals were less likely to have weight-loss for 1year. Among weight control behaviors, intake restriction (OR=1.30, 95% CI=1.10-1.53) and fasting (OR=1.82, 95% CI=1.12-2.96) were associated with prevalence of obesity. Conclusions: HRQoL and depression significantly affected to prevalence of obesity. These results suggest that HRQoL and mental health should be considered as important factors contributing to obesity.
만성폐색성폐질환 환자에서 운동부하 폐기능검사를 이용한 운동능력의 평가

N/A An incremental exercise test was performed in 22 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and 33 normal subjects using a bicycle ergometer to evaluate the physiological response and predictability of resting pulmonary function test parameters for the exercise capacity of COPD patients. The results were as follows: 1) The maximal oxygen uptake in COPD was 1.09L/min which was significantly lower than the 2.57L/min of normal subjects and the breathing reserve was decreased in COPD to 6.5% as compared to the 32% of normal subjects (p<0.001). 2) The maximal oxygen pulse of COPD patients was 8.2 ml/beat which was lower than the 14.7 ml/beat of normal subjects. But the heart rate reserve was 18.4% in COPD which was significantly higher than the 5.8% of normal controls and the rate of oxygen uptake increase as heart rate increases was not different from that of normal subjects. 3) The anaerobic threshold was detectable in only 3 of 22 COPD patients but the ratio of anaerobic threshold and the predicted maximal oxygen uptake was not different from that of normal controls (p>0.3). 4) Among the resting pulmonary function test parameters, FEV1.0 correlated best with the exercise capacity of COPD patients (r=0.689), but there was no significant correlation between the degree of resting arterial carbon dioxide retention and the exercise capacity of COPD patients.
