      • 흰쥐 간 재생과정에 미치는 silymarin의 영향

        Liver is an important organ that is involved in detoxification, carbohydrate metabolism, protein synthesis, blood clotting, and biochemical protection and also, is essential to maintain metabolic homeostasis and balance of body. The aim of present study is to investigate the effects of silymarin on regenerating rat liver after 70% partial hepatectomy (PH). To establish partial hepatectomized model, under isoflurane anesthesia, rats were divided into three groups of animal as sham, control and experimental groups. As the sham group (3 rats), rats were closed after laparotomy. As the control group (4 rats), rats underwent 70% PH. As the experimental group (7 rats), rats were oral administered silymarin after partial 70% PH. Sliymarin (200mg/kg/d) was given to rats for 3 days. Rats of three groups were sacrificed at 3 days and 7 days after PH. To investigate the effects of silymarin on regenerating rat liver after PH, weights of reconstructed liver tissues were measured in control and experimental groups and then regeneration ratio of the liver was calculated. In serum analysis, each group showed different levels of enzymes (ALP, ALT, ALP, GGT, LDH) and bilirubin which are involved in liver function. Immunohistochemical analysis for PCNA was performed according to routine procedures. Positive cells for PCNA, one of the indicators for cell proliferation, were obviously found in the experimental group. The results suggest that silymarin could promote the cell proliferation during liver regeneration induced by PH in rats.

      • 흰쥐 수컷 생식기관의 발달과정에 대한 현미경적 관찰

        This study is carried out to observe and compare the morphology of male genital organs such as testis and epididymis in premature and mature rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups; premature (2 weeks of age) and mature (8 weeks of age). Rats were anesthetized with ethyl ether and male genital organs were removed. Light microscope specimens were prepared by routine method: fixed in 10% formalin, embedded in paraffin block, cut with microtome, and stained by hematoxylin and eosin. The testis of premature rat (2 weeks of age) showed to be at the early stage of spermatogenesis and appeared less layers of germ cells. Primary spermatocytes locally observed at the lumen of seminiferous tubule were translocated to the tubule wall with the increase of the cell population. No sperm cells could be seen in the epididymis of premature rat. In case of mature rat (8 weeks of age), germ cell layers increased and spermatogenesis was active. Numerous sperm cells were concentrated at the center of seminiferous tubule. And interstitial cell of Leydig could be observed outside the seminiferous tubules. The epididymis of mature rat showed folded mucosal layer and stored many sperm cells. This differentiation of testis and epididymis is seemed to be accelerated by gonadotropic hormones at the beginning of puberty.

      • 간접흡연에 의한 흰쥐 폐 조직 변화에 미치는 견운모의 효과

        The present study was carried out to investigate the positive effects of sericite painting against the damage of lung through indirect smoking in rat animal model. Sericite occurs as the fine mica that gives the sheen to phyllite and schistose metamorphic rocks. This mineral has widely been used as a composition of eco-friendly products including cosmetics or wallpaper. We conducted three groups; normal control (NC) group, sericite-applied and smoked (E) group, and group (EC) only smoked for 7 days. Lung tissues of the groups were routinely observed by light microscopy. The results were as follows. In EC group, the bronchioles dramatically were constricted and the number of mucus cells decreased. And also, alveolar wall showed to be damaged or to be thinned. Meanwhile, these pathological appearances were more or less alleviated in E group. In brief, the size and the morphology of bronchioles and alveoli seemed to be similar between NC and E groups. The results suggested that sericite might have air-sanitary effect against the air pollution.

      • 담배연기에 노출된 흰쥐 피부 조직 변화에 미치는 견운모의 효과

        This study conducted to examine the effect of sericite on the change of skin structure induced by indirect smoking in rat. Sericite is a fine grained mica, similar to muscovite, illite, or paragonite and a common alteration mineral orthoclase or plagioclase feldspars in areas that have been subjected to hydrothermal alteration typically associated with copper, tin, or other hydrothermal ore deposits. This mineral has been used as a composition of eco-friendly products including cosmetics or wallpaper. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: a normal control group (NC), sericite-applied and smoked group (E), and group (EC) only smoked three times per day for 7 days. Rat skin tissues were prepared for routine light microscopy. As results, hair follicles were more decreased in EC group than in E group. Cornified layer of epidermis was relatively thickened in EC group. Vacuolization, decreased glandular acini, immaturity in sebaceous glands were often observed in EC group. By Masson’s trichrome stain for identification of connective tissue, muscle and collagen, various structures and components were decreased in EC group in comparison with E group. Shortly, alteration of skin structures induced with indirect smoking might reduce through effective adsorption of pernicious ingredient by sericite products.
