초등생의 인터넷 중독 성향에 따른 사회인지능력: 정신건강, 지능발달의 매개역할을 중심으로

본 연구는 인터넷 중독 아동의 사회인지능력, 정신건강, 지능발달을 측정하여, 일반아동과 어떠한 차이를 보이는지 비교하고, 중독아동과 일반아동의 정신건강, 지능발달이 사회인지능력에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구대상은 경기도에 소재한 초등학교 5,6학년에 재학중인 아동 중 중독아동 13명과 일반아동 27명으로 총 40명이다. 자료의 통계처리는 SPSS version 18.0을 이용하여 일반적 배경을 파악하기 위해 빈도와 백분율을 산출하였고, 집단 간 차이는 t-검증으로, 변수간의 관계는 상관관계분석을 통해, 변수들 간의 영향관계는 회귀분석을 통해 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 주요 결과 는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중독아동은 일반아동보다 사회인지능력이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 정신건강 의 하위요인을 비교해 보면, 중독아동은 일반아동에 비해 사회성이 낮고, 과잉행동 문제, 또래문제 가 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 지능발달의 하위요인에서는 주의집중 요인에서 중독아동이 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 연구대상아동의 인터넷 중독 성향 중 가상적 대인관계 지향성과 일탈행동이 사회인지 능력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연구대상아동의 정신건강 중 품행문제가 사회인지 능력에 유의미하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 중독아동의 정신건강 중 사회성이 사회 인지능력에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 본 연구를 통하여 인터넷 중독아동에 대한 보다 심도 있는 이해를 도모하였다는데 의의가 있다. This study compares social cognition abilities between normal children and children addicted to the Internet by Happe's Strange Stories Test, and examines the effects of Internet use habits, mental health, and intellectual development on social cognition abilities of children. The subjects were 40 fifth and sixth graders of an elementary school located in Gyeonggi Province. They were divided into two groups depending on the level of addiction to the Internet: the addicted group of 13 children and the normal group of 27 children. Major findings are as follows. First, addicted children showed a lower level of social cognition abilities than normal children. In the sub-domain of mental health, addicted children showed a lower level of pro-social behaviors and a higher level of problems in hyperactivity and peer relations than normal children. They also showed a lower level of attention in the sub-domain of intellectual development than normal children. Second, regarding the effect of Internet use habits on social cognition abilities, deviant behaviors and virtual interpersonal relationship had a significant influence on social cognition. Third, a significant relationship was found between behavioral problems and social cognition abilities. Fourth, no signifiant relationship was found between pro-social behaviors and social cognition. This study is of significance in that its findings contribute to in-depth understanding of children addicted to the Internet use.
