        Is It Situation Simultaneity? Journal of English Linguistics, 13, pp. 21-35. This paper examines the so-called tense simplification: the present tense is used instead of the future tense in the adverbial clauses. With regard to the tense simplification, Derclerk tries to explain it by dividing time as past, pre-present, present, and postpresent and employing the concept of situation simultaneity. This paper, however, points out that the situation simultaneity has some difficulties in explaining the present perfect sentences that imply the repeated actions. In addition, it cannot deal with the present conditional sentences that imply the arranged action. Thus, this paper suggests the concept of partial overlapping between two actions that serves as a better tool to explain the tense simplification in the adverbial clauses.       • 학령기 아동의 비만도 변화에 관한 분석

        Obesity is one of the most wide and serious problems in modem public health. Especially childhood obesity prevalence increases rapidly and speedily. Childhood Obesity is specially easy to continue to the adult obesity and it becomes the main reason to occur the chronic diseases while it becomes easily to make the complex of self appearance and the drop of self-esteem in their growing up period that is developing the notion of self enough to appear the spiritual and psychological problems at the same time. But school obesity prevention and management program remain to be passive yet, so obesity prevention program needs to practice much more actively. The purpose of this study aimed to supply the basic data of obesity prevention and management program to be useful of the actual scene of elementary school. The subjects of this study were the 6th grade 229 pupils of G elementary school in Seoul Metropolitan City and the data were collected from Sept 1, 2002 to Sept25, 2002. And data were analyzed as lean, normal, overweight, and obesity in use of the Standard Body Weight of Korean Children while the general specific characters were investigated by questionnaires consisted of 15 questions. Height, weight, and BMI of the subject the 1st to 6th grade of elementary school were used in the record of Pupil's Health Records. The data were analyzed as Real Number, Percentage, X² -test. Mean, Variation, F-test(Anova), and T-test in use of SPSS statistical program. The study results were as follows: 1. The whole Distribution of the subject were lean 46 pupils(20.1%), normal 115 pupils(50.2%), overweight 24 pupils(10.5%), and obesity 44 pupils(19.2%) while lean was shown a little more than obesity. Boys were higher rate than girls in obesity, but girls were higher rate than boys in lean. 2. The specific character according to obesity index was shown feeding method before weaning diet to be the attentive difference (p=0.044) as normal group showed much breast-fed, overweight and obesity showed much mixed-milk, and lean showed much powdered milk in rate. Also obesity pupils who have obesity brother or sister showed more than pupils who have not as showing the attentive difference (p=0.017). 3. At the time of birth, weight and obesity index didn't show the attentive difference (p=0.068) statistically as obesity 3.52㎏, overweight 3.43㎏, normal 3.33㎏, and lean 3.29㎏. 4. The height change of the whole subject was increased 29.83㎝ from the 1st grade 119.62㎝ to the 6th grade 149.45㎝. The pupils increasing yearly showed the highest in the period of the 5th-6th grade. Boys average height showed higher than girls in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade while girls average height showed higher than boys in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade, so height crossing period should be read as the 3rd - 4th grade period. In the whole grade of elementary school, the height difference according to obesity index was not shown. 5. The weight change of the whole subject was increased 21.55㎏ from the 1st grade 22.93㎏ to the 6th grade 44.88㎏, The highest rate period in increasing yearly was showed as the 5th-6th grade. The weight was showed as boys were heavier in the 1st - 5th grade but the 6th grade was not showed any difference specially except girls were 0.49kg more, so weight crossing period should be read as the 5th-6th grade period. Weight difference according to obesity index was shown the attentive difference (p=0.000) through the whole grade(p=0.000). 6. The BMI change of the whole subject was increased 3.81 from the 1st grade 15.97 to the 6th grade 19.78. The increase yearly of the pupils was shown the highest in the 3rd-4th grade period. Through the whole period of the elementary school, boys BMI were higher then girls. The difference of BMI according to obesity index was showed through the grade as the attentive difference (p=0.000). The results of this study are suggested as follows: 1. In this study, lean pupils rate was higher than obesity so health management and various studies for lean pupils should be carried out 2. In this study, the subject of obesity index was the elementary school pupils, but the longer period of the whole school age period should be researched vertically. 3. The differentiated programs according to obesity prevalencey should be developed in order to use them as obesity prevention and management program at the actual scene of school. More over it, the health education and the school health manangement should be activated still more in order to maintain the suitable weight and the healthful life.

      • 흰쥐 시상에서 Epidermal growth factor receptor면역반응 신경세포의 생후 발달에 관한 연구

        Background and Objectives : Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a 170-kDa transmembrane glycoprotein, appears to mediate epidermal growth factor (EGF) activity. Transforming growth factor-α and EGF produce their biological effects in numerous systems by stimulating the EGFR In this study, we examine the postnatal development of EGFR immunoreactivity in the different regions of the thalamus of the rat Materials and Methods : The present study is based on 28 postnatal cases of rat thalamus ranging from the day of birth, postnatal day 0 (P0) to 30 days (P3, P5, P10, P15, P20, P30), and these cases were compared with adult rat thalamus. Cryostat sections were processed free-floating with monoclonal antibody by immunohistochemistry Results : EGFR immunoreactivity in the thalamus of the rat showed very different patterns according to postnatal ages and thalamic areas. EGFR-immunoreactive cells appeared in the first two postnatal weeks, except the ventral posterior thalamic nuclei. In the early postnatal days, EGFR-immunoreactive cells appeared thalamic midline structures, increased progressively in the first two postnatal weeks, and followed mediolateral gradient. The mature patterns of EGFR-immunoreactive cells were achieved at P20 Conclusion : These data indicate that the maturation of EGFR-immunoreactive cells requires a relatively prolonged period of time to achieve an adult configuration. Many growth factors probably play protective or neurotrophic roles at EGFR-immunoreactive neurons of thalamus both young and adult rats In addition to difference in time of appearance in thalamic nuclei and developing pattern with mediolateral gradient suggest that EGFR-immunoreactivities are correlated with the appearance of the related functional.

      • 영어 부정극어에 관한 소고

        Negative polarity items are licensed in negative sentences, whereas positive polarity items in the positive sentences. Why are these negative polarity guaranteed only in the place where negative force is domineering? To explain the relationship between negative polarity items and their licensing items, Ladusaw (1979a, b) proposed the hypothesis of downward entailment, but Linebarger (1987) the negative implicature. The difference between two hypotheses is in that the former treated negative force as minor factor, but the latter did not. This article shows that the hypothesis of negative implicature equips much better mechanism of explaining the negative polarity items. That is, though Ladusaw neatly formulated the condition to license the negative polarity in terms of the inferences from supersets to subsets, he failed to account for determiner little, adjectives having negation, the superlative adjectives, and idiomatic expressions.

        Background and Objectives: Transforming growth factor-α (TGF-α) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) are polypeptides which interact with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) to produce their biological effects. The aim of the present investigation was to elucidate the immunolocalization of TGF-α and EGF in normal human skin, hypertrophic scar with skin graft on soft tissue defect, and postburn hypertrophic scar without graft. Methods: The data presented in this paper focused attention on differences of expression between two kinds of hypertrophic scars in relation to skin graft using immunohistochemistry. Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues from 3 normal skin tissues, 3 hypertrophic scars after skin graft and 8 postburn hypertrophic scars without graft were immunolabelled with antibodies directed against TGF-α and EGF. Results: In normal epidermis of skin, strong TGF-α immunoreactivity (IR) was observed in all epidermal layers except the stratum (S.) basale, whereas EGF was immunopositive in a few cells over all epidermal layers. The staining for TGF-α was found in cell membrane, and EGF was seen either diffuse cytoplasmic or peripheral part of cells in normal epidermis. In hypertrophic scar after six months postoperation, TGF-α IR was observed in the upper part of S. spinosum and S. corneum, whereas EGF was diffusely expressed in the S. spinosum, also its intensity was slightly increased compared to normal skin. In hypertrophic scar without skin graft, very strong expression of EGF was detected in the S. spinosum and S. corneum, and intensity of EGF was increased when compared to normal skin and postoperative hypertrophic scar. EGF and TGF-α coexisted in the cells of S. spinosum in normal skin as well as hypertrophic scars. Double-labeled cells were increased in postburn hypertrophic scar compared to normal skin and postoperative hypertrophic scar. In addition, intensity of EGF and TGF-α double IR was the strongest in postburn hypertrophic scar. Conclusion: These results indicate that EGF may have a more complex regulatory role not only in the early stages of wound healing but also in hypertrophic scar.

      • Nitrone Cyclization을 위한 중간체 합성에 관한 연구

        2, 3-Dihydropyran is opened by hydrolysis in the presence of hydrochloric acid to afford 5-hydroxypentanal. According to Wittig reaction, 5-hydroxypentanal is reacted with potassium tert-butoxide and triethylphosphonoacetate in tetrahydrofuran to give ethyl 7-hydroxy-2-en-heptanoate. And oxidation of the alcoholic group of that compound gives aldehyde(ethyl 7-oxo-2-en-heptanoate). This aldelyde is reacted with hydroxylamine·hydrochloride in pyridine to make an oxime. And this oxime is reacted with potassium carbonate or zinc chloride or pyridine in methylene chloride. But this intramolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrone is not successful. The structure of synthesized compounds was identified with IR and NMR spectra.
