Vol.63 No.-
The essence of the April Revolution is ‘death drive’. After 1960s, Korean intellectualshave been living with being tied by death drive of the April Revolution. They haddeath drive which could break military regime as the symbolic, but it had to becastrated and repressed or obliged to be domesticated to “principle of preservation”. Despite sustaining death drive of the April Revolution’s corps(Kim, Gin-tae) anddemonstration of university students, as it had went toward the late 1960s, deathdrive of intellectuals could not more avoid of being castrated. And Death drive hadbeen often expressed in distorted form, like 「after Revolution」(Nam, Cheong-hyun). Kim, Ju-yeol had existed as a representation and death drive of the April Revolution, but death drive of the April Revolution had been unbearable pressure to intellectualsand writers. This is a cause of sterility in the April Revolution literature. Chun, Tae-il’ssuicide by fire in 1970 is a historical turning point that Korea society resumed deathdrive of the April Revolution. That is to say, death drive of the April Revolutionhad been transferred from Kim, Ju-yeol to Chun, Tae-il in the early 1970s. It hadbrought about “life-or-death-struggle” of anti-dictatorship combined with the poor andlabors. So intellectuals of 1960s could established oppotunity to overcome theirparticipatory limits.
