오늘날 중국은 경제적 성공을 바탕으로 세계질서를 재편해나가는 주도적인 역할을 하고 있다. 경제부흥의 성공은 중국디자인에도 많은 영향을 미치고 있다. 따라서 중국디자인을 이해하기 위해서 중국디자인이 현대화되는 과정에서 어떠한 과정을 거치면서 현재에 이르게 되어 왔는가에 대한 이해를 전제로 한다. 본 연구는 중국현대디자인 발전과정에 대한 연구로 중국 근현대사에 나타난 역사, 디자인관련 문헌에 나타난 실증적인 사료를 바탕으로 역사적 전개과정을 기술하고 분석하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 중국 디자인사를 일반적인 역사분기방법이 아닌 디자인분야의 내적 변화요구에 따른 분기기준으로 중국현대디자인의 발전과정을 나누었고, 시기별 특성요소를 분석하였다. 연구방법은 중국 및 해외에서 발간된 ‘중국 디자인사’와 관련된 문헌을 수집하여 근.현대 이후 서술된 내용을 중심으로 시대별 특성을 살펴보았으며, 디자인발전과정에 영향을 준 정치,사회적 배경을 객관적 서술접근방법의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 중국현대디자인의 발전과정은 역사적으로 보면 자율과 통제의 변증법적인 균형으로 지속적 발전의 길로 걸어 나왔음을 알 수 있다. 또한 중국디자인발전과정에 따른 정치사회적 관점은 중국의 디자인에도 그대로 적용됨으로 정치 사회적 관점을 고려하지 않고는 중국현대디자인을 이해할 수가 없음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 중국디자인이 세계적으로 급부상하고고있는 시점에서 중국디자인과 관련된 연구와 중국 디자인에 대한 이해에 기초 틀을 제공하고자 한다. Today China is playing a leading role in reshuffling the world order based on its economic success. Its success with economic revival has exerted a lot of influences on Chinese designs. It is needed to understand the process of Chinese designs being modernized till the present day in order to fully understand them. This study described and analyzed the historical progression of modern Chinese designs based on empirical historical data in the literature on history and design in early modern and modern history of China in order to investigate the developmental process of modern Chinese designs. The study divided the developmental process of modern Chinese designs according to the needs for internal changes within the field of design instead of general historical division method and analyzed the characteristic elements of each period. As for methodology, the investigator collected literature on the history of Chinese designs published in China and abroad and examined it according to the characteristics of each period with a focus on the content written in early modern and modern days and the political and social backgrounds influencing the design developmental process from the perspective of objective and descriptive approach. The findings show that the developmental process of modern Chinese designs has historically moved along the path of continuous development in the dialectical balance of autonomy and control. The political and social perspectives according to the developmental process of Chinese designs have been applied to Chinese designs as they are, which indicates that one cannot understand modern Chinese designs without taking the political and social perspectives into account. The study tried to provide a basic framework for the research and understanding of Chinese designs at a time when they are rapidly emerging on the global stage.
