A randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled clinical study was used to determine the cognitive functions related to working memory (WM) and antioxidant properties of fermented Laminaria japonica (FLJ) on healthy volunteers. Eighty participants were divided into a placebo group (n = 40) and FLJ group (n = 40) that received FLJ (1.5 g/day) for 6 weeks. Memory-related blood indices (brain-derived neurotrophic factor, BDNF; angiotensin-converting enzyme; human growth hormone, HGH; insulin-like growth factor-1, IGF-1) and antioxidant function-related indices (catalase, CAT; malondialdehyde, MDA; 8-oxo-2’-deoxyguanosine, 8-oxo-dG; thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, TBARS) were determined before and after the trial. In addition, standardized cognitive tests were conducted using the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Batteries. Furthermore, the Korean Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (K-WAIS)-IV, and the Korean version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (Mo- CA-K) were used to assess the pre and post intake changes on WM-related properties. According to the results, FLJ significantly increased the level of CAT, BDNF, HGH, and IGF-1. FLJ reduced the level of TBARS, MDA, and 8-oxo-dG in serum. Furthermore, FLJ improved physical activities related to cognitive functions such as K-WAIS-IV, MoCA-K, Paired Associates Learning, and Spatial Working Memory compared to the placebo group. Our results suggest that FLJ is a potential candidate to develop functional materials reflecting its capability to induce antioxidant mechanisms together with WM-related indices.

A mechanical-hydraulic hitch control system has been adapted to most agricultural tractors. But it has various defects due to friction, inertia and hysteresis. Recently a number of electronic-hydraulic hitch control systems have been developed in several countries to improve control performance of the agricultural tractors equipped with a mechanical-hydraulic hitch control system. This study was conducted to develop a new electronic-hydraulic hitch control system using an electro-hydraulic servo valve instead of an on-off valve and to carry out computer simulation of the system. According to the result of computer simulation, the control system showed the best performance when the proportional constants were 9 and 4 for position and draft control respectively. The step and frequency responses were improved as flow rate increased.
전통주 양조에 적합한 Lactobacillus brevis JBE 30 균주의 특성

전통주 양조에 적합한 종균 선발의 일환으로 에탄올 저항성 및 산 생성능이 낮은 한 유산균주를 전통 메주에서 분리하였고, 생화학적 동정 및 16S rRNA 유전자 염기 서열의 분석 결과 유산균인 Lactobacillus brevis로 동정되었다. 8% (v/v) 에탄올을 농도 별로 첨가한 MRS 배지에 이 균주를 $30^{\circ}C$. 96시간 배양한 결과 잘 생육하였으며, 배양 후 최종 pH는 4.5까지 감소하였다. 이 균주는 또한 식품 부패 및 병원성 균들인 Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Stapylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa에 대해 증식 억제능을 나타냈다. 이 결과들로부터 L. brevis JBE 30은 전통주 양조에 적합한 종균으로 사용 될 수 있음을 보였다. For the collection of starters suitable for the brewing of traditional liquor, an alcohol-resistant strain of lactic acid bacteria with low level of acid production was isolated from traditional fermented soybean lumps. The strain named as JBE 30 was identified as Lactobacillus brevis by 16S rRNA sequence analysis and additional biochemical tests. The strain could grow well at a MRS medium containing 8% (v/v) ethanol for 96 h of cultivation at $30^{\circ}C$. The final pH after cultivation was 4.5. It also inhibited the growth of food spoilage and pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These results showed that Lactobacillus brevis JBE 30 could be used as a promising starter in brewing process of traditional liquor.
건설재해 예방을 위한 혹서기 건설작업온도지수 프로토타입 개발

The recent climate of Korea is changing gradually to subtropical one. This phenomenon causes that the number of days and casualties of extreme heat season is increased in Korea to date. This study focuses on the development of the prototype of the temperature index for construction work to curb the construction work disasters in the season. Firstly, we analyze the cutting edge technology about the index for heat or temperature. Secondly, we review the increasement in casualty in the construction site by the extreme heat in Korea through the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency(KOSHA). Thirdly, we analyze the characteristics of construction work factor for considering the CWTI (Construction Work Temperature Index). Lastly, we suggest to develop the basic prototype of the temperature index against construction work disaster in the extreme heat season, as the CWTI. We suggest the CWTI as TI+WI+HI which presents temperature index combined by Weather Index and Human Index. We validate the CWTI with the case study in specific construction site in the Daegu which is the hottest city in Korea. This study can provide the CWTI as a basic framework and tool to reduce the terrible accidents in construction site.
