대부분의 당뇨병이 있는 개와 고양이는 쉽게 진단할 수 있고 초기에 적절한 식이관리와 중간형 또는 지속형 인슐린을 하루에 1회 또는 2회 투여함으로써 적절히 관리할 수 있다. 당뇨병의 장기간 관리는 체중, 물섭취량과 연속적인 혈당치의 감시에 의하여 적절히 수행할 수 있다. 연속적인 혈당치 측정은 인슐린 치료와 관련된 잠재적인 문제점(저혈당증, 인슐린 유발성 과혈당증, 인슐린 내성)을 확인하거나 피할 수 있는 가능성을 높여 주며, 혈당을 적절한 수준으로 유지시켜 만성 당뇨병의 합병증 발생율을 줄이거나 지연시킬 수 있게 해준다.

This study was conducted to examine the enteropathogens and clinical aspects of diarrhea of the 211 Korean native calves during the suckling period. The experimental results were summerized as follows: 1. The 206 Korean native calves (97.6%) were affected with diarrhea during the suckling period. 2. Of 156 diarrheal feces tested, Rotavirus were detected from 108(69.2%) feces of $K^+99$ E coli were detected from 23(14.7%) feces and Eimeria spp were detected from 33(21.2%) feces. But Salmonella spp and Cryptosporidium spp were not detected. 3. Rotavirus were detected from 2 to 84 days of life, $K^+99$ E coli were detected from 5 to 54 days and Eimeria spp were detected from 33 to 84 days of life. 4. Physical appearances of the diarrheal feces were not affected specifically according to the enteropathogens, but were affected by the severity of diarrhea and the diets.
초유를 섭취한 한우 송아지의 출생후 12주 동안의 혈청 면역글로불린과 각종 바이러스 항체가의 변화

The changes in serum total protein and immunoglobulin levels, and BVD, IBR and PI-3 viral neutralizing antibody titers in colostrum-conferred Korean native calves during the first 12 weeks postpartum were studied, and the results obtained were summerized as follows: The Mean concentration of total protein, total immunoglobulin, IgG, IgM and IgA in sera of 9 calves at birth were $3.8{\pm}0.5g/dl$, $0.27{\pm}0.15mg/ml$, $0.06{\pm}0.08mg/ml$, $0.21{\pm}0.11mg/ml$, and extremely low concentration, respectively. Serum total protein level reached a maximum at 20 hours after birth, total immunoglobulin, IgG, and IgM levels at 24 hours, and IgA level at 28 hours, respectively. Serum IgA level reached a minimum at 4 weeks old, IgM level at 5 weeks, total immunoglobulin level at 8 weeks, and IgG level at 10 weeks, respectively. After then those levels had begun to increase, but total protein level was still decreasing at 12 weeks old. The half-lives of IgG, IgM, and IgA were 21.1 days, 4.0 days, and 2.6 days-respectively. In 10 Korean native cows immediately after parturition, serum neutralizing antibody titers specific to BVD, IBR and PI-3 virus were $8.7{\pm}1.5{\log}_2$, $5.7{\pm}1.2{\log}_2$, and $6.8{\pm}1.01{\log}_2$, respectively. And colostral neutralizing antibody titers against BVD, IBR, and PI-3 virus were $10.1{\pm}1.4{\log}_2$, $6.8{\pm}1.3{\log}_2$ and $7.8{\pm}1.7{\log}_2$, respectively. Before suckling the colostrum, SN antibody titers against BVD, IBR, and PI-3 virus were undetectable from all of 9 Korean native calves. Nevertheless SN antibody titer against BVD virus reached a maximum level ($9.2{\pm}0.6{\log}_2$) at 24 hours after birth, that against IBR virus ($6.1{\pm}1.0{\log}_2$) at 20 hours after birth, and that against PI-3 virus ($6.8{\pm}0.9{\log}_2$) at 32 hours after birth, respectively. In 12 weeks old calves, the SN antibodies against BVD and IBR virus were still decreasing, but that against PI-3 virus reached a minimum at 10 weeks, and increased after 12 weeks of age. The half-lives of SN antibodies against BVD, PI-3 and IBR, virus were 16.0 days, 22.6 days, and 25.5 days, respectively.

The effects of the serum total protein and immunoglobulin levels of the colostrumconferred Korean native calves at 2 days of age on the disease incidence during the suckling period were studied. The results obtained were summerized as follows: 1. Serum total protein, total immunoglobulin, IgG, and IgM levels of 6 Korean native claves died from septicemia were lower than those of calves survived (p<0.05). 2. Korean native calves having low serum total protein and immunoglobulins were affected with diarrhea earlier in life, when compared with calves having high serum levels (p<0.05). 3. Korea native calves having low serum total protein were affected with bronchopneumonia earlier in life, when compared with calves having high serum levels (p<0.05). 4. Korean native calves having low serum neutralizing antibody titers to bovine viral diarrhea virus had high incidence rate of BVD, when compared with calves having high serum neutralizing antibody titers (p<0.05).
Development of Rapid Detection Technique for Canine Distemper Virus

Recently cases of canine distemper have occurred in Korea despite vaccination was carried out nationwidely. This study was performed to establish rapid diagnosis of canine distemper by RT-PCR, nested PCR, and serological test. A total of 30 dogs, which were suspected canine distemper clinically, was examined. RT-PCR and nested PCR were specific for the amplification of CDV H gene and sensitive to detect 7 TCID50 of Onderstepoort strain. By RT-PCR, H gene was detected in 6(20%) of 30 peripheral bloods from dogs. And H gene was detected in 10(33.3%) of 30 samples by nested PCR. H gene was detected from 1 brain of 6 years-old Beagle dog and 1 lung of 2 months-old Shihtzu dog, in which peripheral blood H gene was not detected. Serum neutralizing antibody titer against Onderstepoort strain ranged from 4 to 1,024 in 30 patients. No correlation was observed between the results of nested PCR and titiers of neutralizing antibody.
