One of core functions public health should have is to monitor burdens of disease including harms caused by alcohol use. It became imperative in public health policy to assess and to monitor them, which less attention has been made in Korea. Harms derived from alcohol use include them from others’ drinking as well as from drinker themselves. There has been growing effort to address alcohol’s harm to others (AHTO), called secondary effects of drinking in a number of countries. This paper was to report magnitude of AHTO and identify correlates of it based on a national representative sample of adults (N=3,000) aged 19 year and older. The data showed that 33.7% of adults experienced AHTO measured by a standardized instrument(WHO-ThaiHealth) in previous year. The factors associated with experience of AHTO were age, residential area, drinking problem level by Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test, number of heavy drinkers around respondents, positive alcohol expectancy, and number of alcohol-related problem experienced by respondents themselves. Public health implications of this result were discussed.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is common and causes cognitive dysfunction including memory failure. This study examined the subjective failure frequencies of retrospective and prospective memory when there were two different cues (self- and environmental-cued) in patients with OSA using questionnaire. Method: Forty-three patients who underwent polysomnography and were diagnosed as OSA were included. The OSA patients were categorized into 3 groups based on the scores of the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI). All patients answered the questionnaire of 16 questions. The questions were divided into four categories as a result of the combination of memory type (prospective and retrospective memory) and cueing (self-cue vs. environmentally-cued). Results: All patient groups showed subjective memory failure in both retrospective and prospective memory. The subjective memory failure frequency of the self-cued condition was higher than the environmentally-cued condition when patients in the retrospective memory condition. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in the prospective memory condition. Conclusion: OSA patients have dysfunction in both retrospective and prospective memory. The pattern of dysfunction is different depending on the kind of cue.

The sports deviance must not disregard the social rules, and has the principle and morality of sports in itself. And also considering all the opinions of researchers, we can frame a theory dividing into the affirmation and negation. 1. The direct causes of the sports deviance are thought to be the lack of players' cohesion, the lack of understanding to the policy and cultivation, the reinforcement of hot temper, the attachment to the achievement of object, and so on. 2. The sports deviance is caused by the negative behaviors when the comprtitive compensation structure is developed much more, and one would meet his expected role. 3. One of the forms of the sports deviance is the medicinal poisoning used for the additional object, which is divided into the sedative pills for heart, the stimulant for the central nerves, the blood doping, the male sex hormone, and the like. 4. The sports deviance is divided into intentional or unintentional violences and illegal means for victory, which is done by players, officials, referees, and audiences.

Purpose To assess the effects of probe load and speed on thyroid ultrasonography, an apparatus was designed to capture ultrasound images of a thyroid phantom under various ultrasound probe loads and speeds. Methods We developed an automatic ultrasound scanning system for the thyroid gland, and captured ultrasound images of a thyroid phantom. The ultrasound probe load was divided into 7 steps between 0.1 N and 5.5 N, and the ultrasound probe speed was set at 6 steps, from 4 mm/s to 24 mm/s increasing in 4 mm/s increments. These images were analyzed for sharpness using the Quick MTF, commercial software, and average modulation transfer function 50 (MTF50) value was evaluated at 4 regions of interest (ROI) of the hypoechoic mass. In addition, the Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) was evaluated primarily to evaluate the information loss of the image. The PSNR calculation was performed using the MATLAB. Results Our results showed that ultrasound images were sharpest at a load of 0.2 N, and that there were no differences in image sharpness among the various ultrasound probe speeds of 4 mm/s to 24 mm/s. These results can be applied to develop more sophisticated devices or robots for an automatic ultrasound scanning system. Conclusions These results can be applied to develop more sophisticated devices or robots for an automatic ultrasound scanning system.
