        Comparison of rhythmic and non-rhythmic aerobic exercises on depression and balance in the elderly

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects rhythmic and non-rhythmic aerobic exercises on depression and balance of healthy elderly people. Design: Randomized controled trial. Methods: Nineteen older subjects were randomly divided into 2 groups for rhythmic and non-rhythmic aerobic exercises. Both aerobic exercises consisted of functional movements such as turning in opposite directions, and running in place, the exercise consisted of movements that could activate balance. The rhythmic training group initially used music with 8 beats, and then later progressed to 16 beats. Additionally, we adjusted the pace of the music using songs from 125 beats per minute (bpm) to 160 bpm. Both groups were exercised for 50 minutes a day, twice a week, for a total of 8 weeks. We measured the condition of the patients before the intervention, and after 8 weeks of intervention. The Beck depression inventory (BDI) was used to measure the degree of depression. The Berg balance scale (BBS) was used to measure static and dynamic balance ability. We measured the subject's subjective balance confidence using the fall efficacy scale (FES). Results: Both groups showed significant improvement in BDI, BBS, and FES (p<0.05). The rhythmic aerobic exercise group showed a significant improvement only in the BBS change values compared to the non-rhythmic group (p<0.05). Conclusions: According to this study, both rhythmic and non-rhythmic aerobic exercises resulted in significant improvement in the degree of depression and balance ability of the elderly. The rhythmic aerobic exercise was more effective for dynamic balance ability.

        압력센서를 이용한 감각피드백 균형 훈련이 노인의 정적 균형에 미치는 효과

        PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the most effective feedback condition for static balance in elderly subjects. METHODS: Thirty-eight elderly subjects (12 men and 26 women with a mean age of 77.21 years) participated in this study. They each completed a questionnaire on their general characteristics, excluding personal identification codes. The static balance ability of the participants was evaluated using a Wii Balance Board and the Balancia program (version 2.0). The following three feedback conditions were considered: condition 1 (tactile feedback), condition 2 (visual feedback), and condition 3 (no feedback). One-way repeated-measures analysis of variance was used for the comparisons according to sway length and sway velocity. The statistical significance level was set to α = .05 for all variables. RESULTS: Significant differences in the sway length and sway velocity were observed between the three conditions (p < .05). Significant differences in the sway length were noted in the order of conditions 1, 2, and 3 (p < .05), and significant differences in the sway velocity in the order of conditions 3, 2, and 1 (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Significant differences in static balance ability were observed between the three conditions. In this study, tactile feedback was found to be the most effective feedback for balance training. Owing to aging and impairment of the senses, such as that observed in the tactile receptors, visual receptors, and proprioceptors, it is recommended that elderly subjects participate in balance training.

        근골격계질환 예방프로그램의 필요성과 자동차 부품 제조업 근로자들의 근력과 자세의 특성 연구

        PURPOSE: This study examined the necessity of a musculoskeletal injury-prevention program for automobile parts manufacturing workers by assessing the body composition, muscle strength, and posture according to sex and age. METHODS: Two hundred eighty-two workers (men, 218; women, 64; mean age, 38.97 years; and mean work tenure, 10.29 years) participated in this study. They completed a questionnaire on their general characteristics, excluding personal identification codes. The participants were evaluated for body composition, muscle strength, and posture using InBody, a hand dynamometer, and the Image J program through photography, respectively. An independent t-test and one-way analysis of the variance were used for the comparisons according to sex and age, respectively. RESULTS: Significant sex-related differences in muscle strength and grip force were observed (p<.05). In addition, the left-side pelvic inclination was significantly higher in the female participants than in the male participants (p<.05). Significant age-related differences in the skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength were observed around 40 years (p<.05). Significant correlations were observed among the body composition (skeletal muscle and body fat masses), muscle strength, and posture (pelvic inclination; p<.01). CONCLUSION: Significant differences in pelvic inclination by sex and muscle strength by age were found, even in healthy workers. Additional posture and muscle strength measurements will be needed for workers who participate in the musculoskeletal injury prevention program because they are exposed to an incorrect posture for many hours or in many repetitive tasks.

      • 압력센서 기반의 균형시스템을 이용한 노인균형 특성 연구

        본 연구는 건강한 노인을 대상으로 압력정보제공과 자세정보제공에 따른 시각적 바이오-피드백에 대한 효과를 알아보는 목적으로 Randomized Cross-over Design 으로 연구되었다. 25 명의 노인 참가자를 대상으로 실험하였으며 3 가지 시각적 바이오-피드백의 조건에 무작위 순서로 할당하였다: 압력정보제공에 대한 시각적 바이오-피드백(Condition 1), 자세정보제공에 대한 시각적 바이오-피드백(Condition 2), 비시각적 바이오-피드백(Condition 3). 균형측정을 위해 Wii Balance Board(WBB)와 Balencia software ver 2.0 을 사용하였다. 방법으로 모든 대상자는 3 가지 시각적 바이오-피드백 상태에서 WBB 에 눈을 뜬 상태로 30 초 동안 정적 균형을 측정하였다. Condition 1 은 엄지발가락, 첫 번째와 다섯 번째 발가락허리뼈의 머리부분, 뒤꿈치 아래에 압력센서를 부착한다. 센서로부터 수집된 압력정보는 2m 앞의 LED 에 표시되며, 대상자는 불이 들어온 위치를 보고 체중을 이동시킨다. Condition 2 는 전신거울을 이용하여 자신의 자세를 보며 똑바른 자세를 유지하도록 노력한다. Condition 3 는 시각적 정보없이 2 m 앞에 벽을 보고 스스로 균형을 유지하도록 노력한다. 실험결과 Sway length 와 velocity 에서 모두 시각적 바이오-피드백에 따른 유의한 차이가 있었다 (p<.05). 결론적으로, 압력정보제공에 따른 정적균형훈련은 실제적이고 구체적인 정보를 이용한 훈련으로 효과가 나타난다고 사료된다.

        무기체계개발에서 시스템 성숙도와 기술적 성능 달성도를 연계한 시스템 성능 측정 방법

        최근의 무기체계 연구개발에서 실패의 주요인은 요구되는 핵심성능의 미충족과 기술성숙도 부족이다. 이러 한 실패의 가능성에 대한 위험관리를 위해서 기술성능측정 관리와 기술성숙도 평가의 수행이 필요하다. 하지만 일반 적인 기술성능측정 관리 기법의 적용은 컴포넌트 수준 이하에 대한 측정으로 시스템 통합의 효과를 반영하는 데는 제한이 있다. 한편으로 시스템 통합에 대한 효과를 반영하기 위한 시스템 성숙도 측정 방법이 제시되었지만 성능과 기술성숙도를 분명하게 연계시키지는 못했다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 컴포넌트 수준으로부터 상방향으로 확대하여 시스템 수준에서의 기술적 성능 달성도 평가방법과 함께 시스템 성숙도를 연계하는 시스템 성능 달성도 측정 기법을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 무기체계개발에서 위험관리에 활용할 수 있게 된다. The recent studies indicated that the major sources of the failure in carrying out the programs of weapon systems development would be the unsatisfaction of the required key performance and also the use of premature technology. As such, to manage the risk during the weapon systems development, the use of the technical performance measurement (TPM) and the technology maturity assessment (TMA) turned out to be necessary. However, the TPM studied so far seems to cover the assessment of performance at the component level only, and thus is insufficient in considering the system integration effect. On the other hand, the system readiness level (SRL) method has been presented by reflecting the effect on system integration, but the system performance and maturity has not been considered. To overcome this, a measurement method is proposed in the paper by utilizing the combined system readiness level and achieved technical performance at the system level. This system performance measure can be useful in managing the risk in the weapon systems development.

        무기체계개발에서 작전운용성능을 만족시키기 위한 개선된 시스템성숙도 평가방법

        현대 무기체계는 첨단화와 복잡성의 증가로 시스템개발 실패 사례가 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 사례분석결과 원인은 원래의 시스템 운용개념을 충족시키지 못하거나 미성숙 기술의 적용 등으로 파악되었다. 이에 방위사업청에서 는 무기체계개발시 핵심요구성능으로서 작전운용성능의 충족을 요구하고 있다. 한편 시스템개발시의 위험관리 방법중 의 하나로서 기술성숙도 평가가 사용되어 왔는데, 이것은 개별기술에 대한 평가방법이므로, 시스템 수준에서의 기술 간 통합에 대해서는 미흡하다. 이를 보완하기 위해 시스템 성숙도 평가 모델이 제시되었고, 이와는 별도로 시스템개 발의 난이도의 도입을 통한 리스크 관리 모델이 제시되었다. 하지만 기술간 통합의 효과와 시스템개발 난이도를 동시 에 고려한 모델은 제시되지 않았다. 또한 무기체계개발의 궁극적인 목표인 작전운용성능 충족의 관점에서 도출된 평 가모델은 제시되지 못하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 무기체계개발에서 작전운용성능을 충족시키면서 리스크 관리를 수행하기 위한 방법으로, 요소기술간 통합과 시스템개발 난이도를 동시에 고려한 시스템 성숙도 평가 모델을 구축하 였다. 또한 무기체계 연구개발단계에서 개선된 시스템 성숙도 평가모델을 적용할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. The risk of failure in the development of modern weapon systems has been increasing as the demand on the capability and the resulting complexity of the weapons on the war fields are increasing drastically. The analysis of failure has indicated that the main causes can be the following: one is attributed to the unsatisfaction of the system operation concept; and the other is the use of premature technology. As such, DAPA in Korea is urging that the weapons systems development should meet the required operational capability (ROC) as a critical performance requirement. On the other hand, an approach to risk management is to use the technology readiness level (TRL) assessed for each individual technology alone. However, the method of TRL cannot assess the effect of integration between technologies and cannot be performed at system level, which is crucial to systems development. In order to improve the shortfalls, a concept of system readiness level (SRL) has been studied by introducing the technologies integration and also some forms of analysis of advanced degree of difficulty studied separately, but no model considering both of two reported yet. In this paper, under the framework of meeting the ROC, an improved SRL assessment model is presented, which is also considering the advanced degree of difficulty simultaneously. The application of the improved assessment method is discussed in connection with the life cycle of the weapon systems development in conformance with the ROC of DAPA.

        국방획득 통합사업관리제의 효과성 평가에 관한 연구

        The Article 2 of the Act states, as fundamental ideology that all acquisition programs must be implemented in view of those factors of transparency, expertise, efficiency, and focuses on establishing self-defense readiness and contributes to potential capability of national economic growth. It means that the three factors are core of all acquisition programs. However, adverse criticisms have continued sinse IPMS commencement regarding its effectiveness to the extent that it has rather created extremely negative effect to the acquisitions. The purpose of this study is conducting research for real effectiveness of the I PMS in terms of achieving goals and objectives through survey whit a group of experts. In conclusion for quantitative analysis, respondents strongly perceived the necessity of IPMS, but existing operational status is not appropriate and, accordingly, they thought that the IPMS has not contributed to improve total effectiveness of the system. This study has a profound significance to the extent that it took a research with various acquisition fields of experts on IMPS’s real effectiveness since the system has been introduced to Korean defense acquisition mechanism as a fundamental tool. 방위사업법 제2조는 국방획득사업을 어디에 초점을 두고 수행해야 하는지에 관해 “투명성, 전문성, 효율성을 증진”하여 방위산업의 경쟁력을 강화함으로써 자주국방 태세를 구축하고 경제성장 잠재력을 확충함을 기본이념으로 한다고 명시하고 있다. 다시 말하면 투명성, 전문성, 효율성이 그 핵심이라는 의미이다. 그러나 기본법의 명제와는 달리 통합사업관리제를 채택한 이후 이 세가지 요소의 관점에서 볼 때 과연 목적한 바의 효과를 거두고 있느냐의 문제에 관하여 많은 논란이 지속되어왔다. 효과는커녕 종전 분산형 획득체계보다 훨씬 악화하였다는 극단적인 평가도 존재한다. 본 연구는 ‘통합사업관리제’라는제도를 대상으로 그 효과성, 즉 목표한 성과를 달성했는지에 관해 전문가 집단의 인식을 조사・분석해 보았다. 연구분석결과 연구 참여자들은 통합사업관리제의 필요성은 비교적 긍정적으로 인식하고 있으면서도 현재 운용되고 있는상황은 대체로 적절하지 못하며, 그로 인해 전반적인 효과성이 향상되었는가에 대해서도 부정적인 인식이 우세하였다. 본 연구는 우리나라 국방획득체계의 근간이 되는 통합사업관리제라는 혁신적인 정책이 도입 시행된 이후 15년이 지난 시점에서 정책의 실질적 효과성을 분석하였다는데 의의가 있다.

        감초 물추출물의 멜라닌 형성 억제효과 및 기전에 관한 연구

        The effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract, known as depigmenting agent, on melanin biosynthesis was investigated in cellular level by using B16 mouse melanoma cells. The inhibitory effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract on melanogenesis was determined by mushroom tyrosinase assay traditionally using in vitro screening test. To determine whether Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract suppress melanin synthesis in cellular level, B16 mouse melanoma cells were cultured in the presence of different concentrations of Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract. Effects on cell proliferation, melanin biosynthesis, tyrosinase activity, DOPAchrome tautomerase activity, and expression level of mRNA for tyrosinase were examined. The maximum concentration of Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract that was not inhibitory to growth of the cells was 2 mgml. At that concentration, melanin synthesis was significantly inhibited without cytotoxicity after 5 days, compared with untreated cells. The treatment with Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract reduced tyrosinase and DOPAchrome tautomerase activity in a dose-dependent manner. However, the treatment with Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract did not affect significantly mRNA levels for tyrosinase. These results suggest that the inhibitory effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix water extract on melanogenesis is correlated with the suppression of tyrosinase and DOPAchrome tautomerase activity more than altering mRNA levels of tyrosinase.
