Neo-colonialism was coined by the first president of independent Ghana, and literally it means ‘new colonialism.’ The newly emerging superpowers such as the United States continued to play a decisive role through fixing prices on world markets, multinational corporations, and a variety of educational and cultural institutions. It was more insidious and difficult to detect and resist than the older overt colonialism. This study focuses on the relationship between neo-colonialism and post-colonial drama. Velina Hasu Houston and Genny Lim are considered as Asian-American female playwrights whose mission is to dig up and restore Asian-American history, buried and ignored under the dominant American history. Therefore, these playwrights have made the biggest contribution to making the Asian community visible in the literary arena. In the text, both playwrights share similar techniques in order to destabilize the authority and power of the dominant. They commonly use English and their mother tongue in the play. By doing this, they express their resistance to English, which is a linguistic tool of the dominent. This discursive strategy emphasizes the language barrier such as the difficulty of communication between English-speaking-Americans and the immigrants. Furthermore, in terms of these two plays’ background, Angel Island and Junction city are the ‘in-between’ and hybrid spaces at the same time. These carry the burden and meaning of culture, and this is what makes the notion of hybridity so important. It is this potential of hybrid spaces to reserve the structures of domination in the colonial situation. The plays of Houston and Lim do not glorify the painful diasporic experience. They endeavor to re-member and re-write the history of America by disclosing the forgotten and hidden history of Asian-Americans through the dramatic strategies.
