Strongyloides stercoralis is an intestinal nematode that is able to infect the host tissue and persist for many years through autoinfection, and it causes life-threatening hyperinfection in immunocompromised hosts. We report here on two cases of strongyloidiasis that were diagnosed by colonoscopic biopsy. One case was a 73-year-old woman who was hospitalized with complaints of melena. She was being treated with corticosteroid due to her asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. The other case was a 63-year-old man who suffered with abdominal discomfort and severe loss of body weight (18 kg) for 2 months. In both cases, colonoscopic examination revealed polyps and petechiae at the entire colon. Microscopically, a small illdefined granuloma with a longitudinally sectioned parasite was seen on the colonoscopic biopsy. Endoscopic examination was done after suspecting parasitic infestation. The gastric and duodenal mucosa showed numerous cross sections of adult worms, eggs and larvae that were developing in crypts. Even if such a patient is in an asymptomatic state, this illness must be treated due to the potential for fatal autoinfection.
Carbon anode thin films for lithium batteries

This paper describes a simple method to create carbon anode films for potential applications to the research field of lithium batteries. Carbon films were prepared using DC magneton sputtering with postannealing process in the range from room temperature (RT) to 700 C. Half cells assembled with lithium foils as the counter electrode and 1 M LiPF6 in EC:DMC (1:1 v/v) electrolytic solution was used to evaluate the discharging capacity of prepared anode thin films. We showed that carbon film deposited at RT can be more suitable for an anode material than that of higher temperature annealed films above 400 C. A variety of analysis methods including X-ray diffraction spectrometry (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy were utilized to evaluate the defect density of the films; for example, the more defects on the film were identified when the carbon film was treated at a low temperature such as RT. It is envisioned that DC magnetron-sputtering with optimized process conditions can be useful for fabricating carbon based film anodes.
헥산추출 전처리에 의한 바이오가스 중의 실록산 분석방법의 개선

This study was conducted to improve the analytical method of siloxanes in biogas. Methanol and hexane were tested as absorption solvents of the impinger absorption method, and also the hexane extraction for pretreatment of sample was evaluated. Manufactured gas contained siloxanes of 50 ppm was completely absorbed by the methanol impinger absorption. The absorption efficiency of biogas containing only 2 ppm, however, was maximum 84%. As the condensate on the first impinger increased, the absorption rate of methanol was decreased. The hexane extraction method of the sample was considered to proper the method of moisture removal. The hexane extraction result showed the high recovery factor and the low relative standard deviation. It is suggested that the suitable choice of solvent and pretreatment is required, as the analysis result of siloxane sample may be differentiated depending on the type of biogas or the sampling point.

We present a rare case of an enterogenous cyst of the testis in a 21-year-old man. On ultrasonography, an ovoid hypoechoic solid mass (2×2×1.5 cm) was confined to the right testis. The left testis and bilateral epididymis were within normal limits. Grossly, the tumor was a unilocular cystic mass, without a solid component. Microscopically, the cystic mass was composed of mucin-secreting simple columnar epithelial lining cells, lamina propria and a well-differentiated muscularis propria. There was no evidence of any germ cell derivatives or neoplasia in the cystic mass and in the surrounding testicular parenchyma. Immunohistochemistry showed a positive reaction for cytokeratin and the epithelial membrane antigen in the epithelial lining; in addition, it was positive for smooth muscle actin in the well-differentiated muscularis propria.
