Cho Nyum (1922-2008) was a violinist and composer who took an active part after the 1940`s, the period of the confrontation between the left and the right. Being a member of Proletarian Federation of Music, he was denounced as being a pro-North Korean leftist force. In South Korea he has been through unspeakable sufferings. He was a talented violinist. He was a member of the Korean Symphonic Orchestra, the Kye Jeong-Sik Quartet, and the Association for Research on Opera in their initial stages. And he diffused Western music through concert touring. Cho Nyum was a famous composer who wanted to realize nationalism in his works. He composed Bori-piri (a Barley flute), Mung flower, and My Country as art songs, Piano Trio ``juvenescence`` and String Quartet ``Gun-jung``(the Crowd) as chamber music, and Symphony no. 3, ``Tong-il``(Reunification), Symphony no. 4, ``San-Ha``(Mountains and Rivers) as symphonic works.
