A Clinical observation was made on 128 cases of urethral strictures in the Department of Urology, Hanil Hospital during the period of January, 1968 through August, 1972 and the following results were obtained. 1) Urethral stricture patients were 2.33% of total out-patients. Male to female ratio was 1 : 18. 2) Age distribution showed that 34,39% of the cases were in 31 to 40 yrs. of age group. 3) In 42, 97% of cases, causes of urethral strictures were non-specific urethritis. 4) Traumatic urethral strictures were frequent in 21-30 yrs. age group; gonorrheal, 41-60 yrs. age group; and urethral strictures caused by non-specific urethritides, in 31-40 yrs. age group. 5) The intervals before urethral stricture became clinically apparent were as follows: traumatic, within 6 months in their 85.72% gonorrhea1,'in 5-20 yrs. period in their 60% ; caused by non-specific urethritides, in 6 months-1 yr. period in their 49.09%. 6) Sites of urethral strictures were as follows: traumatic, at bulbous and membranous urethra in caused by non-specific urethritides, at their 75%; gonorrheal, at bulbous urethra in their 44.45%; distal urethra in their 77.55%. 7) Urethral calibers of 26. 67% of male cases revealed 19-20 F., while 43. 37% of female cases revealed 23F. 8) The most frequent subjective complaints were urinary symptoms such as tenesmus in 51. 56%, pollakisuria in 47.66%, and small stream in 42.11% of the cases. 9) Urethrotrigonitis was complicated with 41.41% of the cases. 10) Periodical progressive urethral dilatation was performed in 76.56% of the cases. 11) No complication had arisen from urethral dilatation.

Novel is a kind of art that studies human-beings. As readers, we can actually encounter various characters in the novel who have scars. Also, the images of characters portrayed in novels are not so different from our lives. Milan Kundera, a famous novelist, mentioned in 『L ' art Du Roman (The Art of Novel)』 "To exist means to 'be-in-the-world'." and added "Novel is an introspection of existing characters reflected through imaginary characters." If so, what kind of scars do the people 'in-the-world' have? Lacan said, "Desire arises from the lack of experience that comes from the fact that desire cannot coincide perfectly with drive and demand." Humans constantly desire something and make distinctions. In society where one cannot appeal their existence specifically, distinction can only bring the sense of emptiness. The ego that was not able to find solution in the external world repeatedly seeps into the internal world thus facing scars deep inside and becomes lonely. Novels search for the way that these lonely people 'exist-in-the-world." In this case, ignoring other human beings and simultaneously talking about human existence is meaningless. In a small scale, human beings exist in groups called families, and in a bigger scale, humans live in a community called society. In this group-oriented life, novels illustrate human beings who taste failures while trying to fulfill their desires and to affirm their existence. E.Levinas mentioned in 『Le Temps et l ' autre(Time and Others)』"When I am face to face with others, not only do I meet everyone at that place, but I also become as equal as the other person by giving up my possessions and vested rights." Levinas also said, "By accepting others, I enter into the dimension of universal unity and equality." This does not mean that novels simply reflect human beings who are full of desires, but novels also indicate the studying of humans who completely differentiate others to oneself. Furthermore, this idea fits in perfectly with the theme of the novel that the author aims for.
