팀 버튼 영화의상에 나타난 그로테스크 특성 연구 : '이상한 나라의 앨리스'를 중심으로

빠르게 변화하는 사회 속에서 현대인은 욕구 충족을 위해 끊임없이 자극적인 환상을 찾는다. 이는 아날로그적인 이미지와 더불어 다양한 디지털 콘텐츠로 시각화되고 있는데, 자극적 환상의 일부분으로 ‘그로테스크’ 이미지는 끊임없이 발전하고 있다. 그러한 과정에서 창작자들은 다양한 매체를 이용하여 그로테스크를 표현하고, 이는 대중들에 의해 계속적으로 소비된다. 이에 본 연구는, 그로테스크적인 콘텐츠를 꾸준히 생산해내는 작가주의 감독인 팀 버튼의 영화 ‘이상한 나라의 앨리스’의 의상을 분석하고, 그에 나타난 그로테스크 특성을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하고 있으며, 이를 통해 영화 의상이 표현할 수 있는 시각적 범주를 확대하고, 그것을 다양한 시각콘텐츠에 활용할 수 있도록 하는 것에 연구의 의의를 두었다. 영화 ‘이상한 나라의 앨리스’의 의상에 나타나는 그로테스크 특성을 파악하기 위해, 그로테스크 예술 양식이 시작된 15세기 말부터 현대까지의 미술 작품 12점과 독일 표현주의 영화를 시작으로 2014년까지 개봉한, 16편의 영화 작품을 살펴보았다. 또한 1930년대 초현실주의 패션부터 2016년 S/S 컬렉션에 발표된 작품까지, 창작자가 작품에 사용한 소재와 표현 방법을 알아보고, 이에 나타난 그로테스크 특성을 도출하였으며, 루이스 캐럴의 소설‘이상한 나라의 앨리스’를 포함한 7개의 콘텐츠에 나타난 소재와 표현 방법을 분석하여 그로테스크 특성을 도출하였다. 분석 결과, 그로테스크의 대표적인 특성으로 기괴함, 유희성, 부조화, 공포성, 환상성, 풍자성 등이 도출되었으며, 이 특성들은 분리되어 있기보다는 상호 연관성을 갖고 있었다. 이 중 영화 ‘이상한 나라의 앨리스’영화 의상에 나타나는 그로테스크 특성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신체에 맞지 않는 의상 표현으로 변형된 몸을 부각시키는, ‘신체 변형에 의한 기괴함’이 나타나 있다. 둘째, 다양한 무늬들이 반복적으로 사용됨으로써 ‘반복적인 무늬의 유희성’을 보여주고 있다. 셋째, 복식의 혼합, 현실과 비현실의 조합, 생물의 무생물화, 동물과 사물의 의인화 등으로‘역할 반전의 부조화적인 특성’을 드러내고 있다. 넷째, 의상의 위치 변형과 과도한 장식, 면적을 넓어 보이게 하는 분장 등으로‘과장에 의한 풍자성’이 드러나고 있다. 따라서 영화 ‘이상한 나라의 앨리스’의 의상에는 기괴함, 유희성, 부조화, 풍자성 등의 대표적인 그로테스크 특성이 두드러지게 나타나고 있으며, 이는 의상의 변형, 무늬의 반복, 다양한 오브제의 조합 등으로 표현되었다. 본 연구에 사용된 의상 분석은 영화의 장면에 나타난 이미지를 사용하였다. 따라서 촬영의 각도와 조명, 드러나는 시간에 따라 의상을 정확히 확인할 수 없는 부분이 생겼으며, 이는 본 연구의 제한적인 부분으로 여겨진다. 영화 의상 속에 시각적으로 나타나는 그로테스크 특성을 분석한, 본 연구가 향후 영화 의상뿐만 아니라 다양한 이미지 창출에 영감을 주고 활용되기를 바란다. In the rapidly changing society, modern people looking for constantly exciting fantasy for the satisfaction of desire. This, along with analog image, have been visualize various digital contents, images of the 'grotesque' as part of the stimulus vision are constantly evolving. Creators who in this process may utilize various media to express grotesque is continuously consumed by this public. Therefore, in this thesis, analyzes the costume of grotesque content of principle director Tim Burton to steadily produce the movie 'Alice in Wonderland', it is for the purpose of examining the grotesque characteristics shown in it. Thus, by enlarging the visual categories that can be expressed movie costumes, and to be able to use it in various viewpoints content, it was placed the significance of research. In order to grasp the grotesque that are displayed in the costumes of the movie 'Alice in wonderland', introduced the 16 movies was published in 2014 at the beginning of the German Expressionism movie and art works 12 points from the 15 century that grotesque art began to contemporary. In addition, from the 1930s surreal fashion until the work was published in 2016 S/S collection, creators examines the representation how material that was used to work, was to derive the grotesque characteristics shown in this. Also study were derived grotesque by analyzing the materials and representation method in seven content, including the novel 'Alice in Wonderland' of Lewis Carroll. The results of the analysis, typical characteristic of the grotesque, bizarreness, playfulness, disharmony, fear, fantasy, such as satire properties are derived, this property rather than being separated had a mutual relevance. Grotesque characteristic that appears in the movie costume of the movie 'Alice in Wonderland' is as follows. First, to float the body that has been transformed into costume expression that do not fit in the body, it has been shown 'bizarreness due to the deformation of the body' is. Second, it shows by various patterns are repeatedly used, 'the playfulness of the repetitive pattern.' Third, mixed costumes, reality and a combination of non-reality, inanimate of organisms, anthropomorphic animals and things in such represents a 'discordant characteristics of role reversal.' Fourth, deformation or excessive decoration of the costumes, make up as wide face, has appeared 'satire due exaggeration'. Therefore, the costumes of the movie 'Alice in Wonderland' -strange, playfulness, disharmony, satire - has appeared remarkably typical grotesque characteristics, this is expressed in the deformation of the costume, the repetition of the pattern, combination of objects. Analysis of costumes used in this study, using an image that appears in movie scenes. Therefore, the angle and lighting of the shooting in accordance with the appearance time, portion not able to see exactly clothes has occurred. It is considered restrictive part of the study. This study analyzed the grotesque characteristics that are visually displayed in the movie costumes, not only the future of movie costumes, giving inspiration to the creation of a variety of image desire to be utilized.
