오늘날 우리는 최첨단 생명공학기술의 시대에 살고 있다. 인간의 모든 유전자 정보가 밝혀지고 그를 이용한 여러 방면의 활용이 기대되고 있지만 그에 따른 부작용 또한 상상을 초월할 정도로 제기 되고 있다. 인간의 유전자정보로부터 얻어지는 정보에 의해 차후 그 사람의 건강정보가 예견되어 진다면 고용이나 보험에 있어서 차등대우를 받게 될 것은 자명한 일이다. 이 같은 기술의 발전에 따른 부작용은 연구자가 어떤 윤리의식을 가지고 연구에 임하느냐에서 시작하여 그 활용을 위한 방안을 모색함에 있어서 사회적·윤리적 결정의 단계까지 고려되어야 할 것이다. 생명공학 기술의 발달로 유전자 변형 동식물은 물론이고, 인간복제의 문제까지 현실화 되어가고 있는 시점에서 과연 이 같은 생명공학연구의 분야에 있어서 생명공학자가 가져야 할 연구윤리는 어떠해야 할 것인가가 중요한 문제가 되고 있다. 본 연구는 오늘날 과학기술의 발전에 따른 생명공학분야의 여러 문제들 특히 생명특허의 문제, 인간에 대한 생명공학연구, 농업생명공학의 위험, 생물학적 무기, 유전자 변형 동물실험의 문제 등을 살펴보고, 이에 따른 연구윤리의 문제들을 지적하고 있다. 생명공학연구자에게 요구되는 연구윤리로 인체개입에 따른 인간존엄성 존중, 동물이용 연구에 있어서 필요한 연구윤리, 인간게놈프로젝트 속의 연구윤리, 내부자 고발의 윤리, 연구자의 책임윤리, 과학자의 연구윤리, 의료인의 윤리원칙들을 소개하고 고찰해 보고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 오늘날 과학기술의 발전으로 인해 부각되고 있는 폭넓은 윤리적 쟁점들은 무엇인지, 그리고 이는 특히 과학자의 연구윤리에 어떤 변화와 문제를 제기하고 있는지를 밝히고, 생명공학자가 갖추어야할 연구윤리와 생명공학연구의 자유와 한계를 밝히는데 목적을 두고 있다. Our society is of biotechnology. All information of human gene was disclosed and various uses of it are expected but side effect of it are undescribable. It is certain that a person will be discriminated in employment and insurance when his health data is checked by his genome information. The sincere consideration should be taken of what kind of ethics the researches have, how they deal with those techniques in the socio-ethical aspects. Owing to the development of biotechnology, not genetically modified animals and plants but also DNA replication of human being is being realized. The issue that what kind of research ethics bio-engineers should have is importantly rising up. This study searched out the research ethics in the several following problems; life patent, biotechnological study on human, dangers of agricultural biotechnology, biochemical weapon. genetical modification experiment on animals, The several aspects of research ethics which is required in bio-engineers are to find in the following items: the dignity of human being, the uses of animals, human genome project, accusation of insiders, the responsibility ethics of researchers, the research ethics of scientists. and doctors' ethical principles. In this study I found out what is the general ethic argument in the development of scientific technique, how the research ethics has been changed, what research ethics bio-engineers should have, and what is the limit of bio-technology.
