The author reports a rare horsehair worm or a Gorclian worm found in a country side well on Jeju island. Usually the horsehair worm shows worldwide distribution but it was only reported sporadically in Korean peninsula. Also due to high variations in morphology the classification is diverse between authors.
The horsehair worm belongs to a phylum Nematomorpha of parasitic animals. In a typical case, the adult worm has cylindrical gonads, opening into the cloaca, external cuticle without ci1ia. And they are further classified into 5 species according to the shape of the morphology of the adult wormon the basis of the identification by Cavalho(1941) and Pak Kwang Min(1989). In this case it is revcealed as a Gorclius stiger schneider speciesaαccording to the external morphology and gonad. The author reports a rare case of the horsehair worm and related papers for detailed classification of the horsehair worm.
