학위복 디자인 개발에 관한 연구 - 청운대학교의 사례를 중심으로 - = A Study on Development of Academic Costume Design - Focusing on the Case of Chungwoon University -

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study was to design an academic dress for Chungwoon University that is befitting of its status, realizing the university’s identity while maintaining the functions and significance of the dress and expressing both the traditionalism and symbolic significance of Chungwoon University. The results were as follows. First, through an examination on the current state of design of academic dress of domestic and foreign universities, it was found that domestic universities recently improved academic dress to modify their design through materialization of university identity (UI) by using symbolic colors of the universities as background colors or point colors, or by attaching patch-type embroidery emblems or symbolic icons on both breasts or on the left breast. In addition, a few universities partially reflected components of Korean traditional clothes while generally expressing UI. Compared to domestic universities, foreign universities (for example, US universities) similarly applied their symbolic colors to the entire academic dress in order to realize UI, or attached patch-type embroidery emblems or symbolic icons on the chests, but the shapes of academic dresses or caps were not that diversified in terms of detail, and they were overall identical and simplified. Second, with regard to the development of the design of academic dresses in which the Chungwoon University identity is realized, the shape of the wings of an eagle, a symbolic animal of Chungwoon University, a symbol mark, symbol colors used in the symbol mark and emblem were applied in order to emphasize the image of Chungwoon University’s identity. A total of three types of designs were developed, and Designs A and B visualized the wings of an eagle in the entire design of the academic dresses. Design C is characterized by the application of a separate stole in addition to an academic dress based on simplification. Common UI effects of Designs A, B and C include the application of symbolic colors to the entire academic dress or the attachment of patch-type embroidery emblem in the upper sleeve or chests. Polyester and velvet were used as material.
