국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 사회적 자본 형성에 있어 사회경제적 지위의 역할을 살펴보고 상이한 사회경제적 계층 간의 사회적 자본 보유 격차를 이타적 행동에의 참여를 통해 완화시킬 수 있을 것으로 보았다. 이에 조절 효과 분석을 통해 이타적 행동 참여가 사회경제적 지위와 전반적 사회적 자본 형성 및 사회적 자본 하위요소 각각에 어떠한 역할을 하는지를 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 이러한 목적 달성을 위해 한국행 정연구원에서 실시한 2021년 사회통합실태조사자료를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 주관적 사회경제적 지위 는 사회적 자본에 정(+)적인 방향에서 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이타적 행동은 주관적 사회적 자본 형성에 있어서 사회경제적 지위의 영향을 완화하는 데 기여하는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 사회적 자본의 하위요소 분석을 통해 주관적 사회경제적 지위가 모든 하위요소에 통계적으로 정(+)적인 방향에서 유의미한 영향을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이타적 행동의 조절효과는 신뢰와 네트워크에서만 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 이타적 행동 참여가 한국 사회의 사회경제적 지위에 따른 사회적 자본 보유 격차를 감소시켜 사회통합을 촉진시킨다는 점에서 시민 개개인의 이타적 행동 참여를 촉구해야 함을 시사하고 있으며, 이는 사회적 자본 형성에 대한 학술적 이해의 확장에 기여한다.

This study examines the role of socioeconomic status in the social capital formation and proposes that the disparity in social capital possession among diverse socioeconomic strata can be moderated by active engagement in altruistic behavior. Employing a meticulous moderation effect analysis, we scrutinized the influence of socioeconomic status on overall formation of social capital and its subcomponents, with a specific focus on individual engagement in altruistic behavior. The analysis employed data sourced from the 2021 Korea Social Integration Survey. The findings indicate that subjective socioeconomic status significantly influences social capital in a positive direction, with altruistic behavior mitigating the effects of subjective socioeconomic status. In analyzing the subcomponents of social capital, we found that subjective socioeconomic status positively influenced all subcomponents, with the moderating effect of altruistic behavior evident only in trust and network models. These findings suggest that encouraging citizens’ engagement in altruistic behavior can promote social integration by alleviating the social capital gap associated with socioeconomic status in our society. This study contributes substantively to the ongoing scholarly discourse surrounding the comprehension of social capital formation.
