In this paper, we proposed the method of using a magnetic position sensor to detect the position of the rotor required for vector control of PMSM.
Existing methods for detecting the initial rotor position were not satisfactory in terms of accuracy and practicality, but the proposed method can accurately detect the initial rotor position using the magnetic position sensor AS5047U and a cylindrical permanent magnet.
In this paper, we first performed an experiment on the initial rotor position detection performance when using the conventional method and using magnetic position sensor. From this, it was confirmed that the proposed method using the magnetic position sensor accurately measures the position of the initial rotor. In addition, a characteristic experiment of a magnetic position sensor was performed to confirm the detection performance according to the position of the cylindrical permanent magnet and the sensor. From this, it was found that even if the permanent magnet was separated from the sensor, the measurement accuracy was practically sufficient.
Subsequently, in order to check whether the proposed magnetic position sensor exhibits sufficient vector control performance, experiments on starting characteristics, speed control characteristics, and load fluctuation characteristics were performed, and it was confirmed that excellent vector control performance was shown.
Until now, in the process of lowering the price of low-power vector control inverters, it has been difficult to measure the rotational speed of the motor. If the method of using the magnetic position sensor proposed in this paper is applied, it can be implemented at much lower price, and it is a great advantage that user engineer can design and manufacture himself to meet his requirements. In addition, if this is applied to mass-produced products, it is expected to further lower the price.
