서울特別市 城北區民의 管給水弗素濃度調整事業에 對한 意識 調査硏究 = Knowledge and Attitude about Water Fluoridation among the Residents of Songbuk-Gu, Seoul

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was done for the purpose to investigate the information to improve the water fluoridation program in Seoul. The author surveyed knowledge and attitued about water fluoridation among 1,480 residents selected randomly living in Songbuk-Gu, Seoul. The questionnaires consisted of seven items; i.e., the source of drinkable water and cookable water, recognition of the necessity to fluoridate the water for the purpose of caries prevention, to prevent dental decay for dental health, to prevent dental decay for the reduction of health insurance expense, recognition of the safety of water fluoridation, and the possibility for expanding of water fluoridation program in Seoul.
The obtained results was as follows;
1. 68.1％ of the respondents reported that they use tap water for drinking, and 86.4％ reported that they use tap water for cooking. Therefore high efficiency of caries prevention would be expected by water fluoridation among the residents of Songbuk-gu, Seoul.
2. The education and promotion of the effectiveness and the sagety of water fluoridation is recommended, because only 46.5％ of repondents were aware of water fluoridation for effective caries prevention as public health measure.
3. Because large part of the respondents didn't know that water fluoridation program can feduce the health insurance budget, it is recommended to educate the people extensively.
4. After reading an explanation about the purpose, effectiveness, and the safety of water fluoridation program, the majority of the respondents agreed on water fluoridation program.
5. Only 36.6％ of the people recognized the fact that water fluoridation is safe. therefore, it is suggested t hat active education and promotion be required about the safety of water fluoridation.
