Shakespeare's young lovers go to the wood near Athens, where they have a rare vision, a dream enchanted by love-juice of Oberon, King of fairies. The irrational and absurd action of frantic love affairs is performed by young lovers unawares. Their cross-wooing and conflict are most irritatingly manipulated by Puck, agent of King Oberon, but in the end put into right relationship between the rivals. With the remembrance of the dream in the wood, they come to Athens and are permitted to marry.
Bottom is transfigured into an ass and is fallen in love with Titania, Queen of fairies. Man and immortal spirit are coexist in the wood and love each other. It is another chaotic experience to be solved. The chaotic conflict and dissention are finally reconciled and changed into harmony and marriage, This is a conventional pattern of Shakespeare comedies.
In the play-within-the play of Bottom Shakespeare treats the nature of imagination of art. Mechanicals try to break the dramatic illusion for fear of offending the audience, which causes comic laughter among the audience.
Disparate elements of plot of the play is successfully blended into a unified whole, and A Midsummer Night's Dream is said to be best comedy of Shakespeare's. I have tried to expound the dramatic world of human imagination and its artistic meaning of the play.
