The effect of long-term different fertilization on the properties of paddy soil, and the responses of the rice plant to such fertilities were studied with six rice varieties using the plots fertilized differently over 40 years.
Different fertilization mainly resulted in the differences of chemical porperties such as pH, content of organic matter and nitrogen, cation exchangeable capacity and productivity of paddy soil.
Responses of the rice plant to such different soil fertilities and fertilization were varied from variety to variety, showing the differences in growth pattern, nitrogen and carbohydrate content, resistance to lodging, and the changes in some morphological characteristics closely associated with yielding ability.
