The skin infection has been investigated and a huge amount of work has been done in this field, but still has many problems. The author has attempted to estimate the colony numbers of normal flora in buttock(2.0㎠) of healthy students, and tested bacteriocidal action on the normal skin with 70% Alcohol, 0.1% Benzalconium, 2% Hydrogen Peroxide and 0.1% Iodine. The time tested was 15, 30 and 60 seconds after disinfection with each of disinfectant solutions.
The results were summarized as follows:
1) In the four disinfectant solutions applied, there were decreasing changes in number of colony with time to 60 seconds, particularly being drastic decrease between control and 15 seconds group.
2) In the effect of these disinfectant solutions, Iodine showed the best disinfectant effect and next Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide and Benzalconium in order of effect.
3) Each disinfectant showed characteristic disinfectant effect as time lapses.
a. There were distinguished significances in decrease of colony number in the Alcohol between control, 15 seconds and 30 seconds, but not between 30 seconds and 60 seconds.
b. Both Benzalconium and Hydrogen Peroxide showed distinguished significances in decrease of colony number between each group.
c. In the Iodine, there was distinguished significance in decrease of colony number only between 15 seconds and 30 seconds.
