『열하일기(熱河日記)』에 나타난 필담(筆談)의 양상

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 연암(燕巖) 박지원(朴趾源)의 『열하일기(熱河日記)』에 나타난 필담을 구도와 효과로 나누어 양상을 검토하였다. 실제로 연암은 『열하일기』를 편찬하면서 제목에 명확히 필담임을 밝혀 적은 경우가 많았다. 지면의 절반 이상을 필담으로 할애했다는 점은 눈여겨봐야 할 부분이다.
『열하일기』에서 대상과 1회에 그치는 필담이 있는가 하면, 같은 대상과 많게는 7회에 걸쳐 이루어지는 필담도 있었다. 여기서는 이를 ‘일회성(一回性) 필담’과 ‘다회성(多回性) 필담’이라는 용어로 구분하였다. 이러한 필담의 구도는 장소라는 외부 조건과 상대방에 대한 연암의 호오(好惡)에 따라 그 횟수가 달라지기도 했다. 필담의 참여자 수에 따라서도 그 양상이 달라졌는데 이를 ‘양자간(兩者間) 필담’과 ‘다자간(多者間) 필담’으로 구분하였다. 참여자가 늘어나기도 하고 줄어들기도 하는 가변적인 모습을 보여주었다.
『열하일기』에서 이루어진 필담의 효과는 외국 문사와의 교류를 이루어냈으며, 그속에서 외국 문사들을 연암이 평가하였다. 나아가 그들과의 필담을 통해 천하의 대세를 살피는 것[審勢]이 가능했다. 『열하일기』 집필을 위한 자료의 축적과 정보 교환을 위해 필담을 사용하기도 했고, 그의 타고난 성정(性情)이 호학(好學)적이어서 외국 문사들과 지적 담론을 위해 필담이 사용되기도 하였다. 이처럼 『열하일기』에서 필담의 양상을 구분하여 그 의미를 파악하는 것은 연암의 『열하일기』를 보다 잘 이해할 수 있는 한 가지 방법이 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research examined the aspect by dividing the writing in Yeonam (燕巖) Park Ji-won's “Yeol-ha-il-gi(『熱河日記』)” into composition and effect. In fact, when compiling “Yeol-ha-il-gi”, Yeon-am often wrote it by clearly revealing that it was a writing in the title. It should be noted that more than half of the page was devoted to writing.
In “Yeol-ha-il-gi”, there was a writing story that was only one time with the grand prize, and there were writing stories that were held as many as 7 times with the same subject. Here, this was divided into terms of ‘one time writing’ and ‘multiple writing’. The composition of these writing stories varied in number depending on the external conditions of the place and the good or bad of Yeon-am against the other party. The pattern was also different depending on the number of participants in the writing story, which was divided into ‘bilateral writing’ and ‘multilateral writing’. The number of participants increased or decreased, showing a variable appearance.
The effect of writing in “Yeol-ha-il-gi” deepened exchanges with foreign intellectualer, and Yeon-am evaluated foreign intellectualer among them. Furthermore, it was possible to observe the general trend of the world through writing with them. He also used writing to accumulate data and exchange information for writing “Yeol-ha-il-gi” and his nature was good at learn and writing was also used for intellectual discourse with foreign intellectualer. In this way, distinguishing the aspects of writing in “Yeol-ha-il-gi” and understanding the meaning of writing will be one way to better understand Yeon-am's “Yeol-ha-il-gi”.
