삼봉 정도전의 법사상과 효사상에 관한 고찰 = A Study of the Ideologies for Law and Filial Piety of Sambong Jung Do-jeon

The Chosun Dynasty was a nation built on Confucian ideologies for ruling. The Goryeo Dynasty was impoverished due to wars with Mongolian and Japanese invaders. People of the farming and peasant classes who risked their lives and fought in these wars rose as common people for their roles in such conflicts. Therefore, in determining its basis for national governance, Chosun required a very concrete and rational ruling structure for protecting the lives of its citizens.
In the early period of the Chosun Dynasty that opened the age of a unified book of laws, legislators had the philosophical and ideal foundation that laws should have perfect harmony with the natural order and that it should coincide with public sentiment.
Jung Do-jeon helped establish the Chosun Dynasty for nine years prior to the founding of Chosun and for seven years after the founding of the nation until his death, and he made huge contributions by presenting the ideological and institutional direction for the new dynasty. Jung Do-jeon enacted all systems such as for the summary and control of government rule of the Chosun Dynasty, as well as its operational methods to create the basic system of law for the Chosun Dynasty. Bureaucracy was Jung Do-jeon’s ideology for Confucian democracy.
Furthermore, he believed that humans were born good, but could not always act good due to reasons such the environment, etc., and therefore saw that humans had two sides such as the person and the Mensch. He can be viewed as the person who paved the cornerstone for Confucian ideology and political ideas for the Chosun Dynasty.
