In this thesis I have made some research on 「Porle Piano」composed by Claude - Achill Debussy, who have transformed the traditional musical techniques into new ones and have established impressionistic music under the heavy influenle of literary Symbolism and pictorial impressionism. First of all, after taking note of the features of Debussy's impressionistic music, I have dealt with his piano music which have played a important part in the field of piano music. Finally I have examined how his music has transformed and developed through「Pour le Piano」.
「Pour le Piano」is in a suite style composed of three movements (Pre´lude), (Sarabande) and (Toccata). Its form is qenerally composed of three parts of A-B-A. There often appear pentatonic scale, whole-tone scale and church modes in this work. He intends to creat the impressionistic color by using 7th chord, 9th chord, 11th chord dissonant chords which has porhibited in traditional harmony. The first (Pre´lude) with high tempo, requiring a good technique for playing the piano, is remarkable for impressionistic features by emplaying piano as a colorful insfrument. The second (Sarabande) in slow three quarters meter is composed of the parrellel 7th chord in succesion. The third (Toccata), he employed move liberal musical rhthm in impressionistic point of view.
As stated above, the writer of this thesis has examined the technical characteristics of Debussy's piano musci through observing 「Pour le Piano」. the essential elements in his music are unique and have effective expression on the piano Analyning 「Pour le Piano」 Which Debussy's musical characteristics is expressed remarkabley, it shows a transition outline of impressionism and his musical charateristics. He was a great composer in impressionistic music and the techinques organisinig tone color by Debussy guided to modern music.
