The exhibition industry, which developed first in Europe, is still at the forefront of European and American countries such as Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
However, as the main trend of economic development has shifted to the Asia-Pacific region, Asian exhibitions such as Canton Fair have grown to become an important part of the global market. Among them, China is leading the growth of the Asian exhibition industry.
In China, the world's largest direct investment destination and Korea's largest export market, the exhibition industry developed early. This is due to the high level of basic science and abundant human resources. In particular, China's exhibition industry has grown rapidly after Reform and opening up, and initially grew along the economic zone centered on three cities: Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou. In the early days, exhibitions in China began to be led by the government, but as Reform and opening-up deepened, the exhibition industry was also incorporated into a market-oriented economic system. Since the 2000s, as foreign companies' entry into the Chinese exhibition industry market has accelerated, centered on Hong Kong, and the national economy has grown rapidly, the Chinese exhibition industry has achieved unprecedented development.
This study analyzed the development status of China's exhibition industry by era, and analyzed the international competitiveness of China's exhibition industry with Germany and the United States.
The analysis of the development status of China's exhibition industry after reform and opening was conducted in four stages. In conclusion, China's exhibitions, exhibition and convention centers, and exhibition companies have grown rapidly with full support from the government over the past 40 years. In particular, the scale of the exhibition has grown more than tenfold in the past 10 years, and the scale of the exhibition and convention center has grown to the highest level in the world.
In order to compare the international competitiveness of China's exhibition industry, Germany and the United States, which are advanced countries in the exhibition industry representing each continent, were selected. For the analysis, the evaluation model suggested by the previous researcher was used to compare and analyze the indexes that can be investigated for 6 factors. As a result of the analysis, the international competitiveness of the exhibition industry was highest in Germany, the United States, and China in that order.
