The Purpose of this study is to explore critically the educational discourse to social capital. For this purpose, first, this study examined the previous studies on social capital in pedagogy, second, explored critically the meaning of social capital, the level of analysis, and the level of social capital of upper class. The discourses of social capital in pedagogy argue that this concept contribute to explaining family's influence on student's educational achievement and declining socio-economic inequality between poverty and upper class. But, social capital in educational discourse has following problems. 1) a conceptual confusion 2)the level of analysis overlooking unequal power relationship in the existing society 3)pay not attention to excessive social capital of upper class in korea society. On account of these problems, many previous studies failed to comprehend 1)the processing of family affect to student's educational achievement, 2)difference of the process of accumulation of social capital between poverty and upper class. And, 3)many previous studies had unexpectedly justified socio-economic inequality by the cause of difference of educational achievement between poverty and upper class owing to family. Hence, this study suggest that social capital in educational discourse need to be explored precise meaning of this concept, critically in terms of the understanding of power relations, and recovering publicity of this concept.
