Dichloromethane (CH<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>), largely used in petrochemical industries as solvents and reactants, can be formed by selective hydrodechlorination of chloroform (CHCl<sub>3</sub>) originated from hydrochlorination process as a main byproduct. To solve the environment problems, the utilization of chlorinated hydrocarbons through hydrodechlorination reaction has been largely investigated. In the present study, Pt-Pd bimetal catalysts showed a higher selectivity to dichloromethane by hydrodechlorination of chloroform without significant formation of methane at an optimal ratio of Pt/Pd on the KIT-6. To derive kinetic equations, catalytic reations at several different reaction conditions such as pressure, ratio of bimetals and space velocity and so on were carried out. The activity and selectivity were largely altered and proper kinetic parameters were derived based on the reaction mechanisms.
