글로컬 문화콘텐츠로서의 다큐멘터리 연구 : 〈한국무용, 대전을 담다〉를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 지역에서 제작된 다큐멘터리가 지역의 가치를 알리는 문화콘텐츠로서 지닌 영향력과 가능성을 탐구하였다. 글로벌 네트워크로 연결된 현대 사회에서 문화콘텐츠는 각 지역의 개성과 특색을 전 세계에 알릴 수 있는 중요한 수단으로 활용되고 있다. 특히 수도권 중심화로 인한 지역 소멸 위기에 대응하여 지역 재생과 로컬 브랜딩에 대한 관심이 높아지는 상황에서, 지역을 기반으로 생산되는 문화콘텐츠의 필요성은 더욱 강조되고 있다. 텍스트 중심의 ‘읽는 서사’에서 영상 중심의 ‘보는 서사’로 전환되는 흐름 속에서, 영상콘텐츠는 빠른 전파력과 강력한 전달력을 가진 매체로 자리 잡고 있다. 그중에서도 사회적 현실을 기록하고 심도 있게 제작되는 다큐멘터리는 다양한 형식으로 변용 가능하다는 점에서 중요한 잠재력을 지닌다. 이를 통해 지역 재생을 문화콘텐츠로 복원하는 작업에서, 지역 다큐멘터리가 지닌 고유한 역할과 가능성을 살펴보았다.
사례 연구로 연구자가 제작한 다큐멘터리 <한국무용, 대전을 담다>를 중심으로, 지역의 문화유산을 재구성하고 무용이라는 예술적 매체를 활용하여 서사를 구현하는 과정을 탐구하였다. 비언어적 표현 예술인 춤을 미디어로 표현하는 방식을 분석하기 위해, 시모어 채트먼의 이론적 틀을 기반으로 다큐멘터리의 서사적 요소와 표현 기법을 고찰하였다.
본 연구는 지역의 서사를 기반으로 제작된 다큐멘터리가 글로컬 문화콘텐츠로서 할 수 있는 역할과 그 방향성에 대해 논의하였다. 이를 통해 지역 다큐멘터리가 지역의 한계를 벗어나 글로벌 소통의 장으로 확장되고, 지역재생을 위한 문화콘텐츠로 실천적 변화를 이끌기를 바란다. 또한 지속적으로 활용되는 지역 다큐멘터리가 미디어 스토리텔링 연구 분야의 학문적 발전을 도모하는 문화적 매개체로 자리 잡기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the influence and potential of regionally produced documentaries as cultural content that promotes the value of local areas. In a contemporary society interconnected through global networks, cultural content serves as a vital tool for showcasing the unique characteristics and identities of various regions to a global audience. Particularly in response to the crisis of regional extinction caused by metropolitan centralization, the necessity of locally produced cultural content has been increasingly emphasized as a strategy for regional revitalization and local branding.
Amid the transition from ‘text-based storytelling’ to ‘visual storytelling,’ video content has emerged as a powerful medium with rapid dissemination and impactful delivery. Among these, documentaries stand out for their ability to deeply record and communicate social realities, offering significant potential for adaptation into various formats. This study explores the unique roles and possibilities of regional documentaries in restoring regional identity and culture through cultural content.
As a case study, the documentary <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><Korean Dance, Embracing Daejeon>, produced by the researcher, was analyzed to explore the process of reconstructing regional cultural heritage and realizing narratives through the artistic medium of dance. To examine how non-verbal art such as dance can be expressed through media, Seymour Chatman’s narrative theory was applied to investigate the narrative elements and expressive techniques of the documentary.
This study discusses the roles and directions of regionally produced documentaries as glocal cultural content. It aims to show how regional documentaries can transcend local limitations, expand into platforms for global communication, and drive practical changes as cultural content for regional revitalization. Furthermore, it aspires for regional documentaries to serve as successful examples of continuous application, becoming cultural mediators that contribute to academic advancements in the field of media storytelling research and beyond.
