Loyalty and filial piety are the best ethical and moral value and essential practical ethics of humanity. While loyalty is an element that maintains a national organism, filial piety is a virtue that protects and defends home. An organization will be stable and developmental if loyalty and filial piety are well made up, but will finally collapse if the two virtues are dislocated. Nowadays, the two values are being shaken and moral laxity reached the utmost resulting a crisis situation. Now, when home ethics are in crisis, is the time to look into our beautiful tradition of filial piety and reestablish the image of that suitable to our situations. There will be no religion or national ethics in the world that does not emphasize filial piety. Among them, I would like to look into the spirit of filial piety that is taught by Confucianism and Buddhism which constitute the two axes of our traditional ideology and find out a meaning of filial piety as a practical morality suitable to our reality. Especially the spirit and directions of practice of filial piety suggested by Confucianism and Buddhism are enough to arouse much impression and respect in us. While Confucianism is an ethics of practicing filial piety under one`s parents, Buddhism expresses filial piety for ancestors and parents firmly even after leaving home. However, it will be a desperate requested of this era realizing the instructions of the two religions by respecting and supporting one`s parents throughout the life and commemorating with all the heart after they pass away. Accordingly, I would like to suggest the best method of keeping our precious home as a practical ethics through the instructions of the two religions.
