We have experienced the 43 cases of HIVD patient treated with chemonucleolysis
from July, 1987 to december, 1992. The evaluation Criteria for final outcome was
Marked, Slight, and Un-improvement by Van Leeuwen et al. We analysed the data
by symptom duration, and by number of criteria by McCulloch.
Among the patients with symptom duration below 6 months, the symptom
improvement was achived in 96%, and the patients who have 4 or 5 diagnosis crite-
ria gained symptom improvement in 90%, Symptom improvement was observed in
81% of cases with follow up period more than one year.
As compairied with conventional laminectomy, the chemonucleolysis is noninvasive,
and has low morbidity & mortality rate than laminectomy, and nearly equal sucess
rate, when the procedure is done by experienced surgeon, and by accurate mothod in
proper candidate.
