      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In order to realize the potentiality of diversified design alternatives which reflect architectural composite factors, design solutions would be generated and, then those are evaluated according to their performance for design objectives.
For this, in this thesis, the methodology for applying Optimization Modelling in building design was conceptually studied, then it was verified through the example design of an apartment housing.
On the applicability of Optimization Modelling in the decision making of building design.
Through inquiring into the building design process and symbolic models, following issues are investigated.
      1. Among the symbolic models, optimization model is suited to build-ing design problems which are restricted on their available resources, because of it integrate generation and simulation model.
      2. Among optimization models, Dynamic Programming could be applied to building design problems, because it could handle the discrete, non-linear, discontinuous, and/or stochastic data. It break-downs the total problem into a series of subproblems which can be manipulated as a independent and stagewise problem.
      3. By postoptimal analysis such as sensitivity analysis and stability analysis, and close-to-optimal ones as well as single optimal solution, a field of solutions and widely applicable informations would be provided.
The Formulation of design problems into the dynamic programming structure.
To apply optimization model to the building, the transformation of a design problem into a series of subproblems' stages and states was investigated.
      1. The building design decision-rating using optimization modelling during preliminary design phase would be more effective since the primary and major design decisions are determined in that phase.
      2. The building design procedure in preliminary design phase using dynamic programming is following sequences.
      1) The design problem is examined, and exogenous variables (constraints) and endogenous variables (design variables) are established, then a series of subproblems stages are constructed through function analysis and problem structuring.
      2) According to a set of design rules which are made by constraints, design variables of each stage are manipulated and then the design alternatives are generated.
      3) A cost breakdown system which could be related to relational structure of problem model's stages (design decisions) and functional partitioning is examined, then the cost data those ape estimated against design decisions are assigned to each path and node of stages and states.
      4) Optimization is executed by dynamic programming, and a optimal solution is determined.
      5) By post-optimization analysis, a field of solutions are searched out and through the interpretation of results provides information for decision making.
The decision-making of apartment housing design in preliminary design pase using optimization modelling.
To verifiy the applicability of optimization modelling in building design, as an example the apartment design problem was studied.
      1. From existing related studies, design variables and constraints are examined. A set of design rules are established according to topological, geometric constraints and technical constraints.
      2. Through function analysis and problem structuring, a series of subproblem stages are constructed.
      3. According to a set of design rules, each stage's design options are manipulated then design solutions are synthesized and generated.
      4. Cost data are estimated against each design decision and at located to paths and nodes.
      5. the optimization model was executed, and the optimal solution is 'both-sides corridor system - external lateral shear wall - 30stories - 16units per each stories - L-shaped court-like building layout'.
      6. By post-optimal analysis, the evaluation of design solution according to different criteria, the effect on decisions by different design situations and the application of optimization model in different design phases could be considered.
Optimization modelling is not only a means for of particular project design, but also a tools for improving an designer's understanding on artificial environment construction since it provides quantitive and qualitive informations related to design decision (forms).
But, further studies on the accurate and reasonal cost estimation by the clear understanding on cost-breakdown system and effective integrated Database structure, and the investigation on the linkage of statistical analysis techniques and optimization modelling as well as much more repititive and abundant its application are required.
