中國書論體系에 대한 初探 = A Brief Study on the System of the Chinese Calligraphy Theories

Involved in establishing a system of the ancient calligraphy styles is to understand the basic ideas of each calligraphic theory in an experimental way. in the process, an insight can be obtain ed into what kinds of meaning the ancient people imposed on calligraphy, what they tried to pursue from calligraphy by obtaining the meanings, and what were their ultimate ideals. The calligraphy theories are not only the total essence of the calligraphy practices but also the reflection of the cultural thoughts of the times. Accordingly, a base will be set up for the exploration of the ancient views on aesthetics by establishing a system of the calligraphy theories. Initially, they focused on the forms of letters, then moved onto the nature of the writer , and fin ally turned letters into a piece of new creative art in the developments of calligraphy. The three stages can be
respectively named the form theory, nature theory , and creation theory, which make the most fundamental structures and essential matters in calligraphy. This study was intended to establish an introductory system
of those theories . and use them as the first data with which to investigate the intrinsic characteristics of calligraphy. The adopted methodology was as follows; the focus of the form theory was ’Golgi’ that constituted the bone structure of the letter shapes. As for the nature theory, the focus was made on 'Shinchae' revealed in a work , the causes that help the nature of the writer immerse itself into the work, and ’Hakyang’ that was ’lawoigongbu ’ Finally, naturalness, form ativematters , and ’Tongbyeon’ we re examined in the creation theory. The results led to the conclusions. Since this study aimed to present only the basic exploration of the calligraphy system, the careful account of the entire developments, was chosen over the review of details. The potential significance of the study in the practical senses will be found when more studies on the subject are conducted and their results can provide a direction that the Korean calligraphy society should take in the future .

국문 초록 (Abstract)

고대 서론을 계통으로 나누어 하나의 체계를 세운다는 것은 시험적으로 각 서예이론의 기본 사상을 파악하는 일이다， 우리는 이것을 통하여 옛사람이 서예에 어떠한 의의 를 부여했고， 그러한 의의는 서예에서 도대체 무엇을 추구하려고 한 것이며，또한 그들의 최후 이상은 무엇인가를 비교적 갚게 이해 할 수 있다. 서론은 서예의 실천에 대 한 종합적인 정체이며， 동시에 당시의 문화 사상 을 반영하는 이론이기도 하다. 따라서 서론의 체계를 세운다는 것은 당시의 심미관을 탐구할 수 있는 징검다리의 역할도 겸하고 있다. 서예는 처음 글씨의 형태에 치중하다가 나중에는 글씨를 쓰는 주체자의 성정을 중시하게 되었고， 마침내는 씌어진 글씨를 작품으로 보고 새로운 창작을 도모하기에 이르렀다‘ 이것을 이론으로 체계화시키면 바로 形質詞· 性情詞· 劍作論이라 할 수 있다. 이는 서예의 기본구조이면서 가장 핵심적인 문제들이다. 여기에서는 이에 대한 초보적인 서론체계 를 세워 서예의 본질을 파악하기 위한 밑거름으로 삼고자 한다. 이에 대한 방법론은 다음과 같다 즉， 形質論에서는 글씨 형태의 뼈대를 이루는 ‘骨氣’ 에 중점을 두었으며 性情해에서는 작품에서 나타나 는 ‘神彩’ 와 작가의 性情을 작품에 깃들게 하는 것과 ‘字外功夫’인 ‘學養’에 중점을 두었으며， 創作論에서는 자연스러움과 조형적인 문제 그리고 ‘通變’에 대해 살펴보고 여기서 얻어진 결과를 정리하여 결론으로 삼았다. 이는 어디까지나 서론체계에 대한 초보적인 탐구이기 때문에 자세한 내용보다는 조심스럽게 전체적인 맥락을 파악하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 그리고 앞으로 이에 대 한 연구가 활발하게 진행되어 한국 서단의 나아갈 바를 제시해줄 수 있다면， 이 글은 분명 현실적 가치가 있을 것이다.
