Paper has become a medium to promote human culture and a requisite of civilized society for recording, delivery of message and expression. The advent of paper opened new arts world in the East as well as in the West, and it is applied in various fields of Arts. Artists apply various materials for the infinite change of Art. Recently, they relate with human's spiritual culture, aiming at creative activities and creation of a new ego. They also have a new understanding of paper work that makes modern arts develop further. This study aims to investigate the theory of paper moulding techniques for artistic presentation. First, the purpose of this study is to investigate the concept of paper in terms of history and art history, and recognize a new expressional aspect of paper by studying paper work. Second, through the contemplation of paper which is accepted in modern art as a representational material, this study tries to explain the origin of paper, representational techniques of paper work and its usage in works of modern art.
In conclusion, this study focuses on general contemplation of paper which appears as a new moulding media in modern art, originality and diverse representational techniques of modern paper moulding work. Then I'd like to expand paper work's aesthetic possibility through theoretical contemplation of paper. For this, this study investigates birth of paper, its developmental process, the structure and characteristic of paper moulding.
Therefore, it is suggested that paper is not considered just as a recording media or expressional base, but as a representational material in a new point of view.
Futhermore, this study wants to help others grope for the infinite possibility of expression using paper and to understand artistry of modern paperworks artists.
