The purpose of this study is to analyze the relations of learner's the causes, reliefs of stress, and School-related adjustment.
For this purpose, 533 2nd grade students at 6 middle and high schools in Bucheon city, Kyonggi Province were sampled, and the instruments used for this study was Causes of High School Students' Stress by Won Ho Taek and Lee Min Kyu(1987) and Stress Relief Scale by Kim Jeong Hee(1987), which had been modified and complemented from Lazarus and Folkman's(1987) and「School-related Adjustment Scale」by Kim Yong Rea(1993). The study problems dealt with in this study were as follows:
First, is there any significant difference between male and female students, and middle and high school students in the factors of stress ?
Second, is there any significant difference in stress relief measure between male and female students, and middle and high school students?
Third, is there any significant difference in school-related adjustment between male and female students, and middle and high school students?
Fourth, is there any significant correlation between the factors of stress and stress relief measure?
Fifth, is there any significant correlation between the factors of stress and school-related adjustment?
Sixth, is there any significant correlation between stress relief measure and school-related adjustment?
Seventh, will stress have significant effects on school-related adjustment?
Eighth, will the factors of stress have significant effects on stress relief measure?
The study hypotheses of these study problems were as follows:
Hypothesis 1-1) The factors of stress will be any significant difference between male and female.
Hypothesis 1-2) The factors of stress will be any significant difference between middle and high school students.
Hypothesis 2-1) Stress relief measure will be any significant difference between male and female.
Hypothesis 2-2) Stress relief measure will be any significant difference between middle and high school students.
Hypothesis 3-1) School-related adjustment will be any significant difference between middle and high school students.
Hypothesis 3-2) School-related adjustment will be any significant difference between middle and high school students.
Hypothesis 4) There will be any significant correlation between the factors of stress and stress relief measure.
Hypothesis 5) There will be any significant correlation between the factors of stress and school- related adjustment.
Hypothesis 6) There will be any significant correlation between stress relief measure and school- related adjustment.
Hypothesis 7) The factors of stress will have significant effects on school-related adjustment.
Hypothesis 8-1) The factors of stress will have significant effects on the problem-centered stress relief measure.
Hypothesis 8-2) The factors of stress will have significant effects on the social supporting pursuit stress relief measure.
Hypothesis 8-3) The factors of stress will have significant effects on the emotional stress relief measure.
Hypothesis 8-4) The factors of stress will have significant effects on the passive hopeful thinking stress relief measure.
The collected data were analyzed through SPSS/PC+ program and all statistical values were tested by t-test, simple correlation, multiple regression analysis in the significant level of p<.05.
First, in the factors of stress there was a significant difference between male and female and middle and high school. Male students got more stress related to the opposite sex and female students were more stressed in school achievement, physical health and appearance, psychological and characteristic factors. High school students were more stressed than middle school students.
Second, subject students preferred the passive hopeful thinking among the stress relief measure regardless of sex, and middle and high school. Female students tend to use more stress relief measure than male students, and high school students tend to use more stress relief measure than middle school students.
Third, The result related to school-related adjustment showed no significant difference between sex, but middle school students scored higher than high school students.
Fourth, there was a significant correlation between the factors of stress and stress relief measure.
Fifth, there was a negative correlation between the factors of stress and school-related adjustment.
Sixth, there was a positive correlation between school-related adjustment and positive stress relief measure, while the correlation with significant passive stress relief measure was not meaningfully.
Seventh, the factors of stress mostly had no meaningful effect on school-related adjustment.
Eighth, the factors of stress partly had a meaningful effect on the problem-centered stress relief measure, the social supporting pursuit stress relief measure, the emotional stress relief measure, and the passive hopeful thinking stress relief measure.
