비건 에코페미니즘과 포스트휴머니즘 동물연구의 연대 = The Alliance Between Vegan Ecofeminism and Posthumanist Animal Studies

국문 초록 (Abstract)

비건 에코페미니스트 그레타 가드(Greta Gaard)는 도나 해러웨이(Donna Haraway)와 캐리 울프(Cary Wolfe)로 대표되는 포스트휴머니즘 동물연구와의 연대를 제안한다. 이들은 이원론과 인간중심주의 서사 아래 쓰였던 자연/문화, 비인간 동물 /인간 간의 위계적인 관계를 거부하고 상호적이고 수평적인 관계를 추구하지만, 서로 다른 접근 방식으로 인해 갈등을 빚기도 한다. 이 글은 두 그룹의 학문적 및 실천적 연대 가능성을 긍정적으로 검토하며 차이를 통해 연대할 수 있음을 주장한다.
이를 위해 먼저, 비건 에코페미니즘과 포스트휴머니즘 동물연구가 각각 어떤 경로와 관심사로 비인간 동물을 연구 주제로 삼는지, 비인간 동물 타자를 어떻게 이해 하고 그 바탕에서 어떠한 윤리적 관계를 구축하는지 살펴본다. 이후, 울프와 해러 웨이의 동물연구에 대한 가드의 비판을 분석하고 포스트휴머니즘 입장에서 타당하지 않은 부분을 해명하며 연대의 가능성을 모색한다. 비건 에코페미니즘과 포스트 휴머니즘 동물연구의 연대는 서로의 이론과 실천을 보완하며 동물연구에 대한 관심을 높이고, 인간중심주의와 종차별주의를 넘어 인간과 다양한 ‘반려종’들이 함께 세계를 만들어 가는 다른 미래를 상상하게 도와줄 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Vegan ecofeminist Greta Gaard suggests an alliance with posthumanist animal studies, represented by Donna Haraway and Cary Wolfe. Instead of the hierarchical relationships between nature/culture and nonhuman animals/human beings formed by dualistic and anthropocentric narratives, both groups seek an interconnected relationship. But they are conflicted by their different approaches. This article positively examines the possibility of theoretical and practical alliances between the two groups, arguing that it is possible to build solidarity through difference. First, this article explores how vegan ecofeminism and posthumanist animal studies each take nonhuman animals as subjects of study through their pathways and concerns, and how they understand and build ethical relationships with nonhuman animal. The article then analyzes Gaard’s critics of Wolfe and Haraway’s animal studies, challenges their unjustifiability, and considers the possibility of alliance through this work. The alliance of vegan ecofeminism and posthumanist animal studies will complement each other’s theories and practices and help to raise more attention to animal studies. It will help us overcome anthropocentrism and speciesism and imagine a different future, where humans and “companion species” rebuild the world together.
