판소리 문학 속 공동체 돌봄의 양상에 대한 비판적 고찰 - <심청전>과 <흥부전>을 중심으로 = Critical Discussion of Aspects of Community Care in Pansori Literature - Focusing on Simcheongjeon and Heungbujeon

국문 초록 (Abstract)

돌봄(care) 담론은 1980년대부터 서구에서 태동하여 발전해 왔지만, 2020년대 초 코로나19 팬데믹을 겪으며 국내외 여러 분야에서 돌봄에 관한 논의가 더욱 활발해졌다. 이 글은 한국 고전문학 연구가 돌봄과 관련된 다학제적 논의에 어떻게 참여할 수 있는지 타진해 보는 작업의 일환으로서, 판소리 문학 속 돌봄 양상을 특히 ‘공동체 돌봄’ 차원에서 주목하여 <심청전>과 <흥부전>을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 먼저 공동체 돌봄의 개념과 의의를 짚어보고, <심청전>과 <흥부전> 속 공동체 돌봄의 실천상과 그 한계를 분석한 다음, 나아가 이들 작품에 나타난 불완전한 공동체 돌봄이 오늘날 우리에게 주는 시사점에 대해 논하는 순서로 논의를 전개하였다.
공동체 돌봄(community care)은 지역사회에 소속된 사람(지역민)들이 주체가 되어 서로간의 유대에 기초해 보살핌을 주고 받는 형태의 돌봄으로서, 사적 돌봄과 공적 돌봄 사이에 위치하면서 이 둘에 온전히 기대지 않는 제3의 대안적 돌봄 영역을 담당한다. <심청전>에는 도화동 이웃 주민들과 장승상 부인의 심청 부녀에 대한 돌봄이, <흥부전>에는 흥부의 이웃 돌봄이 적극적으로 실천되고 있다. 그런데 이들의 돌봄 실천은, 돌봄의 내용과 방법을 지역민들이 함께 고민하고 같이 결정하는 것을 핵심으로 하는 오늘날의 공동체 돌봄 개념에 비추어 보았을 때는 여러 미흡함을 안고 있음이 확인된다. 그리하여 우리는 이로부터 역으로 진정한 의미의 공동체 돌봄은 어떤 것이고, 그러한 공동체 돌봄이 가진 잠재력을 온전히 실현하려면 어떤 요건들이 수반되어야 하는지 시사받을 수 있다.
현재 우리 사회에서 공동체 돌봄은 수도권 집중화 현상과 그로 인한 지역사회 소멸 문제와 맞물리면서 충분히 활성화되지 못하고 있다. 이 글은 공동체 돌봄을 중심으로 하여 과거의 판소리 문학 속 돌봄 양상을 보다 미시적이고 비판적으로 읽는 시각을 제안함과 동시에, 지금 우리가 당면해 있는 돌봄의 공백 지점에 대해 성찰하는 계기를 제공하고자 했다.

The discourse of care has developed in the West since the 1980s, but discussions of care have become active in many fields globally since the COVID-19 pandemic in the early 2020s. This study explores how research on Korean classical literature can contribute to multidisciplinary discussions related to care by examining Simcheongjeon and Heungbujeon with a focus on "community care" in pansori literature.
For this purpose, this study examines the concept and significance of community care and analyzes its practice and limitations in Simcheongjeon and Heungbujeon. It then discusses the contemporary implications of the incomplete community care depicted in these two texts.
Community care is a form of care in which people belonging to a community become the subject of giving and receiving cares based on their mutual bonds. It is located between "private care" and "public care" and concerns an area of alternative care that does not fully lean on either of these. In Simcheongjeon, the people of Dohwadong and Jang Seungsang's wife take care of Simcheong and her father. In Heungbujeon, Heungbu takes care of his neighbors. However, their practice of community care has many shortcomings in light of today's concept of community care, which focuses on the community's mutual consensus on the content and method of care. This analysis thus allows us to derive the requirements to fully realize the true meaning of community care.
Currently, community care in Korean society is not sufficiently activated in conjunction with the problems of centralization of the metropolitan area and the disappearance of local communities. This study is meaningful in that it presents a more microscopic and critical view of caring practices in pansori literature and affords us an opportunity to reflect on the care crisis we currently face.
