Recently, R&D Management for the maximization of R&D Performance becomes more an important issue in many companies and the academic world. The reason is that it is believed for an efficient R&D activity to be a principal factor in getting a competitive edge from a firm’s point of view. R&D activity of conpanies is not simply for R&D itself. It is rather closely connected to a corporate strategy. A habitual practice in selecting R&D projects in the past should not be used any more. Specially, companies with limited R&D resources should pay a careful attention to linking their R&D strategies to their corporate strategies.
Under this common consciousness, a lot of companies and schools are making efforts to do efficient R&D Management. One of the most important things in efficient R&D Management is a right selection of projects which have sufficient likelihood of success.
Therefore, this study suggests an effective method of selecting R&D projects using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model to get appropriate evaluation criteria and to analyze their mutual interactions. This method also includes comparison of priorities of evaluation criteria in accordance with a type of a R&D project. But, it would be one example among methods determined in selecting R&D projects. Each company might have to try to choose its own proper method according to its business characteristics.
