조선시대 『주역』의 이해와 교육에 관한 시론적 고찰 = A Study on the Educational Interpretation of the I Ching in Chosun Dynasty

국문 초록 (Abstract)

사물과 사물이 만나서 전개되는 일련의 사태에 관한 설명체계를 갖추고 있는 주역의 64괘는 세상(천지만물)의 모습을 64개의 이미지로 형상화하고, 이를 토대로 하여 세상의 이치와 인간의 도리에 관한 메시지를 함축적으로 제시하여 왔다. 『주역』은 상수파 역학의 관점에만 머물지 않고 의리파 역학의 관점을 취함으로써 역사적으로 사회, 윤리, 교육에 관한 철학적 논의 구도와 전망을 제시할 수 있었다. 주역에서 논제로 삼는 삶과 교육에 관한 중요한 지침은 ``시(是)``와 ``비(非)``의 구분, 그리고 ``정(正)``과 ``사(邪)``의 분별을 통해 사욕과 악념의 굴레에서 벗어날 것, ``성(誠)``, ``경(敬)``, ``의(義)``, ``겸(謙)``과 같은 인간적 가치를 확보하고 이를 실천하는 자세를 취할 것, 눈앞의 현실보다는 멀리 세상을 내다볼 수 있는 안목과 기개를 지닐 것을 말하고, 이 모두가 자신의 선택과 판단이라는 자율성의 문제로 귀착된다는 점을 강조하였다. 유교교육의 중심 주제가 자아 정체성 형성 및 주체성 확립에 있다는 사실을 감안한다면, 『주역』은 자율과 책임을 본원적 과제로 삼는 교육실제의 안내자 역할을 충실히 수행해왔다고말할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this paper I have sketched out the image and message of the I Ching in the perspective of Confucian education. The I Ching is primarily a Confucianist moral and philosophical document. The moral and philosophical meaning of the I Ching has been praised by Confucian scholars in Chosun Dynasty. The sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching were formed into sixty-four examples of the different ways of life, which covered the entire range of human experience. Historically, Koreans have discussed the I Ching both as an oracle and a means of self-understanding. For everyone who seeks to understand themselves and their surroundings better, the I Ching is a very important guidebook. The study of the I Ching makes it possible for us to orient individual human activities and situations within the larger context of harmonious interactions between man and nature. Man is equipped involuntarily by education and social norms or matured voluntarily through his will and effort. Thus, man is a being which has to undergo the certain processes of realizing a variety of possibilities. From this point of view, the I Ching is a practical guide through the perplexities and insecurities of daily life.
