Nowadays, Korea is in need of marketing modernization because the marketing sector linking production With consumption has fallen behind.
In Korea, it is suitable for the small retailing stores to organize and cooperate through voluntary chains in or-der to achieve economy of scale, because they occupy a large proportion of marketing sector and their small scales alone are not suitable to achieve economy of scale.
Therefore, Korea's government has propelled the organization of voluntary chains since 1974. The result has not been favorable so far because of the lack of management ability and leadership of controlling body, and the lack of recognition of member stores,
For this reason, in this thesis the writer analyzed voluntary chains in the Gwanju area, discovered the problems and suggested improvement methods for voluntary chains for the modernization of marketing in Korea through voluntary chains as follows ;
1. To reinforce the qualification and selection standards of member stores,
2. To reinforce the function of the controlling body in the development of goods, sales promotion, training of member retailers and order and delivery of goods,
3. To organize a cooperative system between the controlling body and the member stores.
