This study aims to explore ways to improve school curriculum for developing institutional grounds for the education for happiness and to investigate ways to practically link subject and cross subject curriculum. The agenda of education for happiness has been advocated during the last a few years, and one of the main topics to motivate the current government policies for school reform. This study examines a theoretical clarification of what it is meant by the education for happiness, and how the agenda could be realized in school curriculum. In particular, cross curriculum is an essential domain in which the agenda could be settled in school curriculum, but for now the domain of cross curriculum has never been virtually activated in schools, even though the implementation of cross curriculum is required in the National Curriculum. This study finds a way to demonstrate a desirable direction and contents elements in which cross curriculum could be implemented in order for students to experience life competences. For this purpose, this study takes a survey of education demanders, 1000 students and their parents in 30 elementary, middle and high schools. This study presents the directions for improvements in the subject curricula and suggests changes for the development of contents elements and teaching and learning methods in the subject and cross subject curriculum. The main purpose of this study is, therefore, to give basic data and implications for planning of future curriculum development and investigating the suitable approaches to subject areas
