A study on the effective Teaching Method of Piano
based on Dalcroze Eurhythmics
After the adoption of Western music, the music approaches with a charm in our lives and importance of musical education also more embossed. The piano education the while music education to be popularized most plentifully and to generalized. However, compared to external size, the reality of piano teaching is such that function oriented, repetitive practice comprises most of the curriculum. In other words, the education is focused on handling piano, that is, focus is placed on technique instead of teaching students to express and experience music through piano. Therefore, very often, students feel awkward in interpreting musical pieces, and in experiencing and expressing music, even when they majored in piano.
Burgmüller composed a beautiful etude in order to inform to the people for beautiful music and enjoyment of piano. It is program music that one of the Romantic piano music. Burgmüller' s practice pieces are characterized by titles and cozy musical expressions that induce the imagination and mind-set of children.
Therefore, I introduced Emile-Jaques Dalcroze's Method and suggested the effective teaching plan for the Burgmüller's 25 practice pieces based on the Dalcroze's Methods. Dalcroze raised Questions of the fundamental methods for the musical education and philosophy. From that point of view, he thought that the fundamental element of the all music is rhythm and this rhythm can be found from the natural body rhythm. As a result, he theorized the Eurhythmics, one sort of music education. The Eurhythmics consists of three parts that Rhythmic movement, Rhythmic Solfege and Improvisation.
In this thesis, I analyzed musical elements of the Burgmüller's 25 practice pieces based on these three aspects of Eurhythmics, and suggested practice ways. These ways will be a realistic measure in the face of current realities of music education, which agonizes between the issues of 'educational resourcefulness' and 'interest'. Moreover, it will make the optimal improvement measure to correct function oriented education in which purpose and medium are inversed.
