<AbsText> ON the appearance of the programme of the Upper Nithsdale Meeting this year, a general feeling of disappointment was entertained when it was found that the usual thirty-two dog stake for puppies was struck out, and the open all-aged thirty-two reduced from a £5. 10s. entry to a £4. 10s. The latter change was due to the difficulty experienced last year in filling the stake at the higher figure, and possibly the committee have done wisely in putting it more within the reach of a number of their members. The curtailment in the programme was due mainly to the fear expressed by Mr Todd, the head keeper, of his ability to produce a sufficient supply of hares to go twice over three thirty-twos in one day, in consequence of the devastation that has been worked in the coverts by the great storm rendering it impossible to beat them out. </AbsText>
