During the period from July 1967 to October 1967 the agglutination tests were performed for the defection of O, H and Vi antibodies reacting to A, B, C₁, C₂ and E₁ group of Salmonella antigens in the sera of 108 healthy soldiers.
The strains of Salmonella which were used as diagnostic antigens are as follow; Salmonella paratyphi A: Representing O antigen group A (somatic 1, 2, 12) and flagellar antigen a.
Salmonella paratyphi B: Representing O antigen group A (somatic 1, 4, 5, 12) and flagellar antigen b: 1, 2
Salmonella paratyphi C: Representing O antigen group C₁ (somatic 6, 7) and flagellar antigen c: 1, 5
Salmonella virgrnia: Representing O antigen group C₂ (somatic 8).
Salmonella typhi: Representing O antigen group d (somatic 9, 12) and flagellar antigen d.
Sallnonella London: Representing O antigen group, group E (somatic 3, 10, 26).
Vi antigen: Salmonella typhi, Vi 1 strain.
The studies were also made to determine the relationship between Vi antibodies and carriers.
The resuts are as follows.
1. The agglutinins to Saimonella genus in normal human sera showed high incidence to the considerable extent. Especially O antibodies for Salmonella D, and E₁ group antigens proved high rates and O antibodies for Salmonella C₁group antgens proved lower rates.
2. The rate of Vi agglutinin titer over 1 to 10 was 41.1%.
3. Minimal O titer of 1 to 160 or better and H titer of ① to 640 or better might be regarded as significant for the serological diagnosis of thypoid among soldiers.
4. One out of thirty six individuals having Vi agglutinin S. typhi were isolated from feces.
