In this paper, I am intended to investigate critically the question “Is Lee Gyoo-Ho"s actual participation as a social philosopher in Korean society the practical action which coincides with his own philosophical conviction, or the opportunist behavior that caters to those in power?” and to give an persuasive and reasoning answer to it.
For this purpose, I concentrate my efforts on disclosing the essentials of the problem of Lee"s participation in reality in two aspects. The one is the work to examine the actual participating characteristics and the ideological affinity in his philosophical system between Lee Gyoo-Ho and the ruling class in those days, focused on the properties of his view of the world and the idealogical directivity. The other is the work to confirm the fact that his participation in political reality of Korea is projected over the long haul through inspecting his personal history to carry on working out his originative social-philosophical system.
My ‘temporary’ conclusions derived from this work are as follows.
Firstly, Lee Gyoo-Ho"s actual participation proceeds from his own philosophical conviction and intention to realize his philosophical plan in the Korean society by taking advantage of political power of reality.
Secondly, his participation in reality under Chun Doo-Hwan"s dictatorial government is carried out, not to fulfil his own desire for power and honor with the aid of ruling power, but to accede to demand for his social philosophy on the basis of his decision that the then current situation of Korea under new military dictatorship regime must require his own practical philosophy.
Lastly, Lee Gyoo-Ho"s participation in political reality could be put into practice by virtue of the coincidence in view of the world and the affinity of political ideology between his philosophical system and the ruling ideas of military rulers at that time.
