The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of singing program on withdrawal behaviors of children in low income families. In this study, 5 withdrawal behaviors of children in low income families were selected by teachers of community child care center. In 10 sessions which took 60 minutes each time, the researcher performed singing programs with presenting a kind and basic material of singing by degrees.
To measure the effects of singing program for decreasing withdrawal behaviors on the subjects, the researcher compared the results of K-YSR and TRF withdrawal scale before and after the program. Finally, the researcher did research on the subjects musical and non-musical behaviors related withdrawal through 'behavior observation record', which the researcher invented and consisting of using voice, self-expression, and eye- contact.
The results of this study were as follows: First, after comparing the results of K-YSR and TRF withdrawal scale score which were conducted before and after the singing program, the mean of the score was decreased each 6.4 and 3.6 points. Also it is statistically significant .042(p< .05) in Wilcoxon signed rank test. Second, the result of withdrawal related behavioral changes in music activities after analysing, the frequency of eye contact has increased as well as tone and volume of subjects' voice.
The result of this study indicates that singing program has positive affects on withdrawal behaviors of children in low income families; in addition, it is affective on withdrawal related behaviors. Therefore, this study indicates that singing program shows its effectiveness on children with withdrawal problems.
