담론분석이란 무엇인가?: 국제정치학의 경우 = What is Discourse Analysis in International Relations?

This research discusses contemporary engagement with the theory and analysis of discourse in International Relations(IR). It asks what discourse analysis is and explores its potential contributions to IR in South Korea. The paper proceeds as follows. First, it introduces a Foucauldian approach to discourse after the linguistic/ cultural/interpretative turns and identifies the relevant debates that have characterized the approach to discourse analysis. Second, it identifies two distinct types of discourse analysis in IR around which most contributions in this field after the so- called “Third Debate” converge: micro-interactional approaches and macro- structural approaches. Finally, it presents some theoretical and policy-related implications of critical discourse analysis for our IR research with Korean characteristics and national grand strategy.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국제관계연구는 그동안 주류 접근법들이 부당전제 해온 홉스적 자연상태론과 물리적 힘의 합리 적 계산에만 기초한 가정들을 벗어나, 담론분석을 통해 각 행위자들이 어떠한 상징세계 속에서 상 대방을 인식하고 상호작용하는지를 탐구하는 문화접촉과 변용의 세계사를 추구할 필요가 있다. 나 아가 착취와 지배의 집단간 관계를 벗어나 보다 다원적이고 평화적인 타자에 대한 이해와 공존을 추구하는 윤리적 문제도 제기되어야만 할 것이다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 본 논문은 국제정치 학에서의 담론분석이란 무엇인지, 그것이 우리의 학문에 가지는 함의는 무엇인지 등을 질문하였다. 이에 본론에서는 언어적/문화적/해석적 전환 이후 담론연구의 내용을 특히 푸코주의적 관점에서 소개하면서, 담론분석과 관련된 몇 가지 쟁점들을 다뤄 보았다. 다음으로 냉전 종식을 전후해 등장 한 소위 “제3논쟁”을 배경으로 본격적으로 부상한 국제정치학 내에서 담론연구의 현황을 미시적 차원과 거시적 차원으로 분류하여 설명하였다. 그리고 마지막으로 담론분석이 우리의 국제정치연구 에 주는 의미를 이론적 차원과 정책적 차원으로 나눠 고찰하였다.
