The purpose of this study is to search for influence factors of confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance through the comparative analysis, extent between problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence in core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students and to provide baseline data that confidence in core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students.
The method of this study is aimed at senior students who are located in 3 different department of nursing, and examine through the questionnaire during Oct. 22th, 2016 to Nov. 2th, 2016. Also the materials of retrieved questionnaires(total 208) are used final analysis materials. Using SPSS WIN 21.0 program, general features are used number and percentage. And extent of problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students are used average, standard deviation. According to subject‘s general feature, difference between problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance are analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and posteriori tests are analyzed by Scheffe‘s test. Relationship between problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students are used Pearson correlation coefficient. Also Using hierarchical regression analysis, problem solving ability and self-directed learning ability are effects on confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students.
The results of this study is as follows:
1. Extent between problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of subjects, Problem Solving Ability‘s grade point average : 3.33; Of all low item, decision-making ability(3.48) gets a highest score, and then analysis ability(3.47), assessment(3.46), feedback(3.45), planning ability(3.42), problem-awareness(3.39), practice& acception of adventure(3.33), diffuse thinking(3.22), information gathering(2.83) gets a lowest score. Self-Directed Learning Ability‘s grade point average : 3.34; set up learning goal(3.63) gets a highest score, and then self management ability(3.48), learning execution continuance possibility(3.42), self-examination(3.39), effort on attribution about outcome(3.37), selection of learning strategies(3.32), resources understanding for learning(3.21)
Confidence of Core Fundamental Nursing Skills‘s grade point average is 3.75.
2. In accordance with general feature of subject, difference between problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance show that problem solving ability is statistically significant in satisfaction of practical education(F=5.39, p<.001). And Self-Directed Learning Ability is statistically significant in gender(t=6.53, p=.011), last semester‘s grade result(F=8.12, p<.001), motivation of apply for nursing(F=3.09, p=.017), practice education satisfaction of core fundamental nursing skill(F=12.16, p<.001). Result of posteriori analysis, students who scored 4.0 in last semester‘s grade result are higher than 2.9 in self-directed ability item. Satisfaction of core fundamental nursing skill is statistically significant in gender(t=16.37, p<.001), practice education satisfaction of core fundamental nursing skill(F=4.39, p=.002).
3. In relational analysis between problem solving ability, self-directed learning ability and confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students, problem solving ability is statistically significant in self-directed learning ability(r=.757, p<.01), confidence in core fundamental nursing skill performance(r=.308, p<.01). Self-directed learning ability is positive correlation with practice education satisfaction of core fundamental nursing skills(r=.340, p<.01).
4. As a result of conducting regression analysis, in order to confirm that influence factors of confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students, its influence factors are analyzed that problem solving ability(β=.206), gender(β=.205), practice education satisfaction of core fundamental nursing skills(β=.155). In addition, confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance of nursing students is statistically significant(12.5%).
Collectively, the results suggest that increasing problem solving ability and self-directed learning ability can be effective strategy to increase confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance. Therefore, education strategy should establish that by means of increasing problem solving ability of student so that improving confidence of core fundamental nursing skill performance in education of Nursing. Also, this study considers that increasing their nursing task and effective adaptation in their circumstances as a clinical nurse after graduation, through self-directed learning education is needed students who receive a nursing education and expected to graduate.
